http://home.ingdirect.com/ Looks like you can get 3% interest, and not have to do a thing. No minimum balance and no fees?? Sounds a lil too good to be tue. Anyone use, or ever heard of this company?
I use it. It's for real and is legit. I've had no problems transferring money to and from this account and my Bank of America account. Now let me refer you and get the bonus!
Its real. Where've you been . Huge Dutch mega corp. Been around over a hundred years. Been using it for a couple of years...better rates than locked in terms at the bank!
Thanks guys. Guess I have been under a rock.... Sorry Nike, but someone else already asked me about it, but I wanted a 2nd opinion.
ING is something I use as well, and have freely transferred money between my regular account and my ING savings account. It is a great deal.
I don't know if it's running right now, but when I signed up, I got either a $25 or $50 bonus for adding an account (you have to keep it at least 6 months I think), then if you refer someone, you get $20. The only drawback to ING is it takes usually 72 hours to transfer funds. But I never really need the money on demand, so I keep enough money in my checking and more or less use ING as my savings.
ING is great. I've had an account for about 3 years now. The interest rates can't be beat for a savings account. You can get $25 free if you let another ING account holder refer you. They will also get $10. Shoot me an email through the board and I can send you a referral link so you can get the $25.
I'm ING'ing as well. I think there are actually sites that give you even more...but I remember feeling they were less reputable, if you know what I mean.
I've used it for around 5 years now I guess... maybe a bit less... it's real. They're one of the largest financial institutions in the world.
BTW, there are other "online banks" that offer a higher APY than ING does, but I just like the ease of saving money to an ING Direct account. Most of the higher APY's are money market accounts. I think Capital One offers a savings account that offers 3.10 APY, but I don't know what stipulations and restrictions they have.
I don't know how liquid all you folks need your money to be, but I've been putting a good amount of my savings into municipal bond funds. I use Fidelity since my company has my 401K there, so they don't charge me any fees. In a bond fund, you are looking for a monthly dividend to make your money, not capital appreciation of the fund itself...so my fund pays a dividend every month and has earned a nice 5.5% APY since I opened it. Plus that 5.5% is TAX FREE...so my effective return is closer to 7-8% in my tax bracket. It is not FDIC insured, but pretty safe. PS: Don't use municipal bonds or funds in any tax deferred account like a IRA or 401K. It defeats the purpose of the fund if you are already getting the gains tax free in the account itself.
