The last five games for Hayes: 3 minutes 12 minutes 7 minutes 13 minutes DNP-CD Scola: 27 minutes 21 minutes 20 minutes 20 minutes 25 minutes Landry: 13 minutes 26 minutes 17 minutes 20 minutes 9 minutes Have we moved on from the Hayes experiment at PF? Personally, I hope so....
No chance in hell. He's still the best defender on this team and one of the best defenders in the league. He has been relegated to specialist status mostly by the emergence of Landry, but he still has a solid, solid place on this team.
I'm sure he will get minutes when Scola and Landry are struggling. His defense and rebounding is valuable.
Is he done? Nope. He's situational now, which means the ROX actually have some all around talents playing the 4. Hayes still has a role on this team, and I'm both proud and amazed that he's an NBA player. Sometimes heart and hustle goes a long way... maybe if he could hit a jumper...
Landry and Scola are eating Hayes minutes. With these two guys we are getting scoring from the PF position, so Hayes will continue to seee less minutes.
Adelman has said that he'll play all 3 at different points in the game, depending on matchups. Realistically, though, as we get closer to the playoffs I can't see us keeping such a long rotation. I think Chuck will eventually be the odd man out, outside of maybe some end of the quarter defensive possessions. Hopefully it works out for the best. Defense is a still a concern for me for our PFs, but they did a pretty good job tonight.
He is a cool guy and everything... but he is trade bait.. nothing more anymore... im sorry.. he has done alot for this team.. but its time to move on.
I think he's more of a defensive specialist for certain occasions like 4th quarter defensive switches where Yao is subbed out. Basically I think his role is limited to a more specific role, but also I don't think he'll be cut anytime soon. There was that interview where Landry was constantly asking for advice from Chuck on how to run Adelmans system, and Chuck complied in helping the rookie that was basically taking over his minutes very politely. And it's showed in Landry's hustle and performance. For that reason alone, I think his mentoring will have a huge impact on this team's success and Landry's rookie development. It's underestimated how chemistry off the court and in practices is vital to a teams success when games count. The Bulls are a good indicator that despite their talent, getting in fist fights, and establishing player suspensions isn't going to help a whole lot to bolster team chemistry. Hayes is still providing that despite his lost role as a starter. I applaud him for that.
Package hime with James, Snyder, and draft pick for Kurt Thomas http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...834~1051~2445~846&teams=25~25~25~10&te=&cash= KT is another weapon against the Spurs. He's also an expiring contract that makes salary space for the purpose of re-signing Landry.
Hayes may be very valuable a month or so from now . . . Let's not forget that the other two PFs may hit "the rookie wall" later this season, and having an experienced player available at the PF position could be a real big help.
I've said this many times: Hayes should have worked on an offensive game. What the heck does he practice? Hustling around? Does he practice chasing squirrels? I mean really, get a game! His years in the NBA are probably numbered. No other team wanted him in the off-season and somehow, he was our starter. I don't think that our current win streak and his lack of playing time are mere coincidences. He may have a role on this team, but it should be very limited just like his skills.
I would have to say yes. Hes a hard worker and all but he can't put the ball in the rim and thats what really counts.
Until he can beat Ryan Bowen in a game of one on one, He will be nothing more than a specialist. A very short specialist..........
Look at Ryan Bowen, who is still getting valuable minutes off the bench for one of the best team in the West. It proves that if u have a heart, play defense and hustle, you can stay in the league.
