This has bugged me for a long time, is Golf a sport? I think it is more of a skill contest than one of sport, same as bowling, or likewise poker. Golf is considered a sport, but it hardly takes athletic skill to be good at it, IMHO, Golf is NOT a sport. I like golf, in fact, I love golf, I just think that people calling Golfers athletes is ridiculous.....Poker players are not athletes either.... DD
Any sport where a 16 year old girl can compete with grown men on the field of play is not a sport, it's merely a game. A game that takes a great deal of skill, but not a sport.
I think golf IS a sport. Anything that requires skilled physical labor is a sport, IMO. Poker? It requires skill, but you're sitting down. Defenitely not a sport.
I always think of sports as athletic games. In golf you don't have to be atheltic to play, so that's why I don't think it's a sport. Just a game.
I read in Maxim that any sport you can play while drinking alcohol isn't a sport (golf, softball, darts, bowling, etc...)
golf is on the same level as bowling. bowling might even be more of a "sport" since there is more physical exertion. either way neither are sports. they are both games.
Golf is probably the most difficult sport, game, or whatever u wanna call it, to master. Hitting a driver straight is probably one of the more difficult things to do.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport A sport consists of a physical and/or mentally (<<<<poker?)competitive activity carried out with a recreational purpose for competition, for self-enjoyment, to attain excellence, for the development of a skill, or some combination of these. A sport has physical activity, competition, self-motivation and a scoring system. The difference of purpose is what characterises sport, combined with the notion of individual (or team) skill or prowess. Later it talks about sports which fall under other categories which include golf. I would say golf is a sport.
It is true that every sport has it's owns unique, physical requirements to be competetive. Golf is no different. No, you don't run but I' am sure arm strength plays a role. There's no ball and no running required in boxing. So it's not a sport either???
