I drove by a Chevron today by my work and it was $3.79 on my way to work, and when I was leaving work it had jump to $3.95 and on my way home most of the gas station I saw were above the $3.85 range. It was in the $3.73-$3.85 range just last week. As gas gets closer to the $4.00 range ... Have or are you changing the way you drive around town?
No. I live in the furthest away parts of Missouri City near Highway 6 and commute to the airport on weekdays. Plus I do sales calls, mostly in the airport area. Gas could go a lot higher and my driving habits won't be affected. What will definitely be affected is our choice of vehicles when we replace one or both of our cars in the next 8-10 months. The car I use to commute is at ~250,000 miles (the odometer light doesn't work).
yes it does. I try my best not to speed and I avoid hard accelerations. I coast off of exits rather than breaking and then stepping on the gas again.
the serious increases in gas prices fortunately coincided with my car being out of commission for over three weeks.... i got very used to not having a car (for all intents and purposes), and that trend has continued since i got it back. that, and the fact that i can walk to work
drive with my windows down/ac off when it's early or late in the day... keep my rpm's under 3300 with my 6-speed... actually compare gas prices at different shells ( i have to use supreme)... don't accelerate hard or brake hard... only fill up at night... only keep it on the lowest amount when on auto pump on the gas handle at the pump... use a gas rewards card (citi shell card for 5% cash back)... don't race any more teenybop civics that want a piece (have a 350z and it attracts attention)... about to start riding a bike to work sometimes (i live 2 miles from work)... yah, I'm frugile, but screw it, I'd rather cut back on transportation than anything else, especially when it seems easy for me
definitely. before i bought a car after moving west, prices were around 2.25 a gallon. where i live (CA) they predict gas will be 5.00 a gallon by july 4th. it is currently around 4.50 - 4.70. i started using cruise control more and I am trying to coast down hills and when coming to stops. this is called hypermiling. there are some controversial methods of hypermiling which include cutting off the engine while coasting, as well as taking turns without braking, etc... http://www.hypermiling.com/ I also vowed to take my bike/skateboard/bus to work once a week but haven't done that yet...
I never road race in my Z, so this doesn't apply to me. I have changed my driving habits though, as in no more cruises to Galveston on weekends, granny shifting 1st to third to 6th at 40 MPH, no taking lunches at work, but that's a plus as I get overtime for that. I just can't enjoy the car anymore. This car is made to drive aggresive, but with these gas prices it's a no go. I don't even let it get below half a tank before I fill up anymore. I filled it up with 11 gallons the other night and it cost me over $50.00. Yeah, I know that's not much for you SUV and Diesel owners, but that's a lot for a 2 seater 6 cylinder. Still can't fathom how I'm only getting 16.8 MPG in this car. City driving sucks.
I'm thinking about trading in my silver Lexus for a black Lexus since I heard those get better gas mileage. Actually, I drive a little slower on the highways. No more 85 mph. I cruise about 60mph. I'm not sure how this saves gas, but I heard that long haul truckers have started to slow down while traveling cross country, so I do the same. Maybe someone can explain why driving 60 mph vs 80 mph over the same distance saves more gasoline.
No. I'm riding out the storm in my truck, and I ain't letting no gas prices hold me back from living my life how I want. Gas will drop eventually, it is summer after all. I thought it was standard issue that gas mysteriously rises in the summertime, then mysteriously falls shortly after August. Maybe...just MAYBE...gas will fall around October right before something *major* happens.
yeah don't let the "fill up in the morning when the gas is more dense" myths fool you either... http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive/how_to/4264939.html http://money.cnn.com/2007/05/09/pf/gas_myths/index.htm http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/105077/6-Gas-Saving-Myths
