Is Eddie Griffin black Listed? Every single day I read all the new NBA related articles on espn.com, nba.com, etc etc. I check this board religiously. I've read all the free agent reviews, and yet the only place I've seen Eddie Griffin's name mentioned is here on this board by posters. Vin Baker is being mentioned as a possibility some places and yet I can't even find Eddie Griffin on a comprehensive list of free agents. Has the NBA given up on Eddie Griffin or is he just not available at all for some reason? I thought surely some team would be willing to gamble on him, but I can't even find mention of his name anywhere. I'm by no means suggesting the Rockets pick him up or anything of the like. I'm just curious as to what has happened to Eddie Griffin.
Isn't he hidden somewhere in H-Town in rehab still? Oh yeah that's right he's also facing charges for assault with a deadly weapon. Maybe not black balled, but pretty close to it.
Right now, his career is somewhere between the careers of Jay Williams and Jayson Williams. A mess with little chance of recovery.
I don't really understand what's going on here. Kobe Bryant is also awaiting trial yet he was the most sought after free agent on the market. Now obviously Eddie is no Kobe Bryant, but none the less he's more talented than some of the guys who've already been signed for big money. When I look around the NBA at guys like Rueben Patterson, it just leaves me baffled as to why Eddie Griffin's name seems to have vanished entirely already.
The difference being that guys like Kobe and Ruben Patterson seem capable of functioning ok on a daily basis, whereas Eddie Griffin seems to go to pieces bi-weekly.
A bunch of teams drooled over Eddie last year and the Nets "won" the chance to be big losers. He burned the Nets. Teams are probably interested, but he'll need to show SOMETHING before teams just cough up 6 figures on him for doing absolutely nothing.
Griffin hasn't shown that he has his head screwed on straight. Why take a chance on a guy who hasn't shown he is functioning properly?
I wouldnt be too surprised to see a team like the Heat give him a flyer. They could use a PF. Or perhaps the Cavs? I bet someone will give him a chance. But no one will probably pick him up until around training camp. If someone signs him to the vet minimum I think it would be pretty low risk. I know I will get flamed up and down but I would still like to see the Rockets get one last crack at him now that he has gone through therapy.
I agree with you Deuce. I'd like to think there could be some kind of feeling on EG's part that he owes the Rockets big time and is willing to make good. I asked Feigen a couple of weeks ago about the chances of EG and the Rockets hooking up again and this was his response: If he's right, I guess they feel so burned by EG that they're unlikely to take a chance on anyone with with question marks, like V. Baker, etc. I suppose EG might've burned them so bad they might not even consider him, or anyone, regardless of rehab success, therapy, medications, or whatever adjustments they might have made.
The emphasis on veterans going to be too extreme, I'm afraid. A lot of the long-standing power teams have rejuvenated themselves with good draft picks in a way that the Rockets do not appear to do.
