Is it just me or does Dwight look like every night he gets in foul trouble because he feels like he has to get every block or every steal? It's gotten to the point where he picks up fouls even when the opponent would have had to take a difficult shot anyways. So many times he has his opponent in a difficult shot as it is and all he has to do is keep his hands up, and yet sure enough he swipes down at the ball to pick up a foolish foul. Also he is a great weak side defender but he isn't going to block every single shot, but he still goes for it and his man almost always gets an uncontested put back.

All I'm saying is part of being a great defender is to evaluate risk and reward and I don't think Dwight is at that level mentally yet. His presence in the paint is more than enough and essentially equal to blocked shots. He is useless to the team with 4 blks and 5 fouls in the 4th. What do you all think?

He is playing with a chip on his shoulder and trying too hard. That's the problem with Dwight: he plays the game as he sees fit and not in a way which maximises his talent. The common traits of big time winners is the capacity and commitment to make the most of whatever tools they have been endowed with. For example, Kevin Keegan was a poor prospect but managed to make the most of whatever talent he had. So far, I just don't see the same desire from Dwight.
More concercing, however, is his PNR defense which might indicate a decline in mobility/agility. Also him not rotating and coming out to contest shots on PNP situations is pissing me off as it often leads to ridiculous situations like one of our guards trying to contest an LMA or Dirk shot.

I see your point, but I'd argue that Dwight's foul trouble has a lot to do with our PF play. When the defense has to pay attention to TJones (or DMo) to prevent 2nd chance opportunities and easy buckets, Dwight doesn't have to get as many of those stupid fouls.

Besides the 2nd chance opps, atrocious weak-side defense is a massive contributor to our porous defense. When TJones is able to deliver with a timely block or at least hustle to get the rebound, Dwight has more confidence to leave his man and go up for the block/ defend the initial offensive possession.

Give it time, the stats already show an improvement in Defense vs. last year.

Dwight is not particularly smart and relies on his athleticism a lot.

He commits at least 2 fouls a game of really cheap variety. The kind of fouls that someone like him who has been in the league for 10 years should not be committing.

I have been watching him closely on defense this season and I have noticed that his footwork, timing, positioning and judgement on defense are not top notch. IMO, they are somewhere between good to very good but not great. Again, he relies on his athleticism more than anything else.

I also have complaints about Dwight in the rebound department. More often than not he relies on his athleticism to get the rebound. I dont know how many times I have seen him fail to box out his man. A guy of his size and athleticism should be dominating the boards every single night provided he puts in the effort every single night and also boxes out well.

Yup, he's caught flat footed a lot. He'll get the boards that come to him every time, but doesn't really go after them.

Dwight has to commit the stupidest fouls in NBA history, every ****ing night. Not to mention he has that "surprised look" as if he didn't hack the **** out of the player's arm. STAY VERTICAL, STOP TRYING TO STRIP THE BALL.

I love him but it's incredibly frustrating to watch.

This is the Dwight we're stuck with. Injuries and age is creeping up while his athleticism slowly declines. Unless Dwight works on his fundamentals, I can't see his game aging gracefully.

Rockets have a three to four year window tops and you can only hope Harden takes it to the next level. If Parsons stick around, he'd have to elevate his game as well.

Houston's also going to need a very crafty PG Steve Nash like, if they intend to keep Mchale around. Lord knows everything coming out of his mouth is rubbish and this team is winning solely by talent right now.

I see what Terry Stotts is doing down there in Portland and can only wish Rockets could do the same. Running a system, creating open shots for the wings trumps this ISO heavy one on one BS Mchale is running any day. And saying, "Mchale is running" is giving him too much credit already.

He is emulating Hibbert's "verticality" rule.

    You are late.

For many years, that's one criticism on Dwight since his Orlando days.

I just blew a 15 point lead on NBA2k14 against Sacramento, losing in OT & then got blown out by GSW...from the 4th qtr of the Sac game no one on the team could hit squat...add that to the loss in real life and I am one angry Aussie.

I feel like kicking a kangaroo.

Good call. One combo can play together... and the other only in specific matchups (POR, MEM).

Adding an offensive perimeter player like Harden to ZBo/Gasol equals 60 wins easy, and maybe championships.
