I guess its just my own ignorance, but I couldn't name more than 4 or 5 GMS league wide. But I constantly hear Daryl Morey's name in the national media, and its treated essentially like common knowledge. In the recent Bill Simmons podcast with John Hollinger, Simmons referred to Daryl Morey as "Daryl" -- evidently the guy must be so well known that he can be referred to simply by his first name.

Who are the most famous GMs in the league right now? Does Morey have to be included there? I wonder how that may help or hurt us in trade talks.

He's one of the more intriguing GMs in the league for sure. His methods are fresh and innovative. There are more "famous" GMs including Kerr, Michael jordan, Kevin Mchale, etc. But Morey is truly one of a kind.

He's not a GM anymore, is he? There's some Colangelo up in Toronto, I forget his name.

Steve Kerr is pretty famous because of his TNT days, and he took over a popular franchise and apparently sunk it. RC Buford I hear about a lot (though I have no idea what he looks like), because of the Spurs excellence over the years. Donnie Nelson in Dallas. Mitch Kupchack. Donny Walsh -- is he a GM with the Knicks or a CEO? Kevin Pritchard I hear about a lot. Dumars was a famous player, and he's been a solid GM.

But I know there's been at least 2 or 3 big articles featuring Daryl Morey in the mainstream media the last few years. I don't recall coming across those for other GMs, but maybe that's just because I wasn't looking for them.

Now that I put more than a few seconds of thought into it, I guess I can name more than 4 or 5. :D Still, Morey seems to have gotten a lot of exposure, even though the team really hasn't done much on the big stage.

Well, Morey is known to us as Rockets fans but I think Danny Ainge, Mitch Kupchak, Kiki Vandeweghe and many others are just as well known.

Thanks. A lot of those names I wouldn't have been able to come up with off the top of my head. I could have matched up 23 of those names with their corresponding team with full confidence. Some like Mark Warkentein, John Hammond, and Jeff Bower I've never even heard of.

Simmons knows him from his Celtics days. He mentioned in another podcast that Daryl doesn't return his emails anymore because he was constantly sending suggestions and questions.

Simmons is a Celtics homer and got to know Morey when Morey was working in Boston's front office.
