He's 9th in scoring among shooting guards. Only 2 in the West score more than Mobley - Kobe and Peja. And Peja actually lines up at forward. He makes 43% of his 3's and 84% from the charity stripe. As horrible as we think his FG% is, three of the shooting guards ahead of him actually shoot worse - Iverson, Carter and Stackhouse. Two of those will be starting for the East in the All-Star Game. Of those 8 ahead of him in scoring, Carter and Stojakovic actually line up at forward. That would make Mobley 6th in the league in scoring among 2-guards and 2nd in the West! This is for someone who shoots just 4 free throws a game. He doesn't get star treatment like Kobe and others. This year Payton, Nash and Szczerbiak were named as reserve guards in the All-Star game. I don't think it's such a ridiculous notion to think that Mobley might be in an All-Star game or two himself one day. Especially if the Rockets make regular appearances in the playoffs.
here, the same reasoning applied with francis vs. kidd fits basketball is more about stats... it's about a myriad of intangibles in making your team more effective as a basketball team which of whom francis has less than kidd and mobley likewise less than the forementioned guards. cuttino gets a decent amount of credit around here and hasn't shown consistency yet to merit more imo.
I don't know. I just came from espn.com and nba.com and although these sites aren't the greatest determining factor with facts both seem to agree that he's underratted.
