A few people I personally know have been held up in the last month alone.

A friend and fellow poster on here was held up and kept hostage for close to 10 hours. Parked his car at night in the apts and three guys came and clocked him. Put him in the trunk of his own car and drove around to different atms so he can withdraw money. Even took him to Walmart so he can charge some stuff on his cc.

Another friend of mine and her boyfriend got home from a holiday party. Parked their care and two guys came with guns and demanded they lay down on the ground. Took the purse and wallets and gifts. One of the assholes told the other ******* to "f'n shoot them". My friend was obviously hysterical at this point and told them that they had everything...why shoot? Luckily they did not and ran away. Cops came and said at least they are okay and they probably will not catch anybody.....wtf?

Yet another friend and his uncle got held up at their store.

Another friend's uncle got murdered yesterday...Christmas day at his gas station.

Thinking whether I should go buy a gun. Most likely wont though.

My sister and brother in law left their car in Memorial Plaza, and are here in Saudi arabia. 1 night later, my Grandfather's Christmas lights cord was cut to make the area dark, and someone broke into his car.

I parked my truck right behind it, and am now in Saudi myself. Hope nothing happens to my truck. It's armed with an alarm which his isn't, so maybe it'll be okay.

Crime has been up since Houston opened its door to Katrina's refugees.

remind me never to become your friend.

on a serious note, my g/f always worries about me when visiting the ATM. she never goes by herself either. sometimes it irks me because she's always scared and becomes a prisoner of her own home. but i can certainly understand why.

Practice common sense safety but don't live your life in fear is what I always say.

Someone mentioned Katrina, and I'm wondering if 4 and a half years later that is still the case.

One in a nice part of Sugarland, one was in harwin/hilcroft area, one in Liberty and one in a decent part close to downtown. So all different parts.

I should have asked what part of town did these crimes happen, but guessing they all happened in the general area of where they lived.

Why would drugs, which have been around forever, be to blame for the rise of crime in Houston?

And yeah, it's been pretty much proven, if not correlated, that the events post-Katrina led to a spike of crime in Houston and the surrounding areas.

Nothing racist or discriminatory about it. Just plain fact.
