Is Bradford really worth 48 million more than McCoy?

Looking at the contracts signed this year, it's crazy how large the discrepancy is between first round draft picks and players drafted later. Its not like Bradford is a sure thing or something. I just don't get it.

Bradford got a contract with 50 million guaranteed while McCoy got a 3 million dollar contract with only about 1.5 million guaranteed.

Contracts for 1st rd picks are insane, but it's gonna get fixed next summer.

I've never been a major Bradford fan, at least not anymore than Colt McCoy, every time Bradford faced some pressure his performance dropped, and he was a product of the spread offense. He seems like a smart guy, but the college spread doesn't require you to read defenses like he'll have to in the NFL.

Bradford has a better arm that Colt, but Colt's intangibles (creativity, clutch factor, mobility) have always been better.

I just don't see that big a difference between the two. To be honest i'm not too big on either guy as a franchise QB.

    No rookie is.

It's absurd. He never has taken a pro snap before and is getting paid some serious Jack.

I wouldn't want 50 million of my money spent on a guy with Sam's injury history...but I guess if you are the Rams and you want to draw more than flies next year, you have no choice.

Well, it is pretty obvious Colt McCoy doesn't have anywhere near an NFL arm. Even the Browns view him as a project and not a potential starter.

It is pretty ridiculous, but the pay scale should go into effect next year.

The #1 pick in 2011 is going to hate his life whenever he sees Sam Bradford.

Hahah.....says the guy who dissed Colt all last season......

I am sure Drew Brees heard the same thing when he went pro...

Colt will be a very very good PRO QB.

I'm a life long Sooner Fan.

No i don't think Bradford is worth that much, and no i don't think any rookie player is worth that much.

I think Bradford will end up being a good NFL Quarterback. He has the skill and the brains.

I don't like very many longhorn players, at all. But Colt is one the few I do like and respect him fully.

Colt is in a great situation. If he never becomes a star, its not a big deal, he isn't expected too.

Basically, the majority of first round quarterbacks end up being busts. I don't think Bradford will. A rookie salary cap would be nice, we will see if they put one in next year.

Drew Brees and Wes Welkers are the few expections.

we can't all just say that Colt and Wes are the next Brees and Shipley.

If Colt McCoy played at Iowa, u wouldn't be saying he would have a great NFL career.

but hell we are all bias to the players we love!

DD you seem like a swell dude but man your track record with talent evaluations has been pretty suspect...Colt wil be servicable at best.

It's all relative. All NFL franchises are amongst the wealthiest sports teams in the world (according to Forbes). They can afford to shell out some big bucks to someone that they will endorse and advertise and make him the face of their franchise for the near future. If they can get the turnstiles turning again with Bradford at the helm, then it was worth it.

(but 50 mill deposited into a bank account all at once is sorta crazy)

You can not be right all the time, there are certainly misses....Colt is not one of them, he will be a very good pro.

I don't know if he will be as good as Brees, or even Bradford, but I would not bet against him.....

The dude has come from nowheresville to be the starting QB everywhere he has been.....don't bet against guys like that....they make you look bad all the time.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen confirms that Ndamakong Suh is seeking a more lucrative contract than No. 1 pick Sam Bradford received.

Suh's agent, Eugene Parker, is reportedly pushing for $90 million over six years with a whopping $56 million guaranteed. Bradford got $78 million with $50 million guaranteed. It can be argued that Suh was the best player in the draft, but he doesn't get a QB premium and he wasn't the No. 1 pick. If Suh's representatives don't agree to slotting their client, we could be looking out a significant holdout. The Lions would be insane to give Suh more than Bradford.

That's a ridiculous amount of money for someone coming off an injury plagued season to finish his collegiate career. Aren't the Rams under new ownership though? This could explain their stupidity.

I believe you said last season Colt McCoy would be a better NFL QB than Matt Schaub.

    That was already ludicrous enough.

If Colt McCoy ever turns into a top 5 NFL QB, I will give you all my green dots.

Bradford, Russell, Carr and Stafford are in a better situation with tons of cash in the bank despite doing nothing in the NFL so far.

I say this as a big Texas fan and a former Colt fan...Colt will never be anything in the NFL and he shouldn't be anything in the NFL. Colt showed his true colors at the national championship game.

If you don't think it "worth it" (his dad's words) to risk your arm in the national championship game because you have a stinger...you don't have what it takes to be a winner in the NFL.
