bosh is a great individual player but i think his stint in toronto has proven he is incapable of elevating the play of mediocre teammates the way nash or lebron or kobe post-"getting it" can. he's also not a one-man game changer like howard or shaq in his better days. so i vote no. i would put him in the same category as carmelo or nowitzki. successful only if you surround him with complementary talent. putting him on the current rockets roster without losing essential pieces would accomplish just that.
To me it is not just about mixing players it is also about managing the money..... I agree that Bosh makes the team better, but if he takes up a max contract, is he worth it? That is all I am saying, I guess....to me, a Franchise player is worth the max, all others are not. DD
I don't know, does R.Lewis deserve that salary? If the Magic win a ring with him, tell them whatever. Howard is a better player thanks to having Lewis aside. Maybe together deserve that amount, not separate. Same with Bosh-rest of team (not only Yao), being CB a better player than Lewis.
Yeah, it's too easy to get hung up on labels. The Rockets in '85-'86 were heralded as the "team of the future" and weren't really supposed to seriously contend that season. They certainly weren't supposed to get by the Lakers, the defending champs, yet they ended up going to 6 games in the Finals. They came up against a better team, Bird's Celtics, the only team that could beat them that season. Sometimes it isn't whether you have all the particular pieces to contend and win it all, but rather the luck of the draw (or the bounce of the ball!).
Does Gasol deserve that kind of money? Would the Lakers have been in a better position to win a ring by letting Kwame expire and signing a free agent or trading for a cheaper player? How about Ray Allen? same questions as above for the Celtics.
Yes its worth it... he makes us better than any other team in the west or east.... So its going to be worth it when we have a parade in downtown Houston next June!!!! --RB
I guess the obvious answer is determined if the team wins a ring....heck, I would be happy if they were a true contender, as that is all anyone can ever do, be in the mix. DD
Bosh might be a Franchise Player.... But this guy is FOR SURE a Franchise Player.... I would love to see someone do this to the Spurs in a Rockets uniform...
Another way of looking at it is this. Can you win a championship if (insert name) is the best player on your team?
