Apparently the market has dried up for Bonzi Wells and there are not many big men available for our 4.2 M T.E. How about, a two year deal starting with 4.2 M, with second year as a player option to lure Bonzi Wells. If he fits in great, if not we can package him with some of our expiring contracts at the trade deadlines to get an impact player.
that's a steal... which is why we won't get him. I don't envy bonzi though, because next summer won't be much better for him since everyone else is going to be a free agent and in two years no one will want to sign him to a long contract since he'll be older. The guy really shot himself in the foot with that bad attitude.
He's better than what we have, but does he fit us? The Kings were a different kind of team. Where else did you see the center (Brad Miller) on the wing feeding the SG in the post? The market for Bonzi hasn't dried up. It's a salary cap matter at this point. A SnT for what Bonzi wants put the Kings into the luxury tax and they have already signed his replacement. Bonzi will sign a one year deal with Detroit, Denver or somebody and try the market again next summer. He got greedy with the Kings and they shishkebobed him. Somebody should write an article on NBA players who have lost millions by not accepting contract offers because they wanted more. Latrell Sprewell, Stromile Swift, Nazr Mohamed, DeShawn Stevenson come to mind and there are others I can't think of at the moment.
you'd probably right, and that's why the Rockets has a chance to sign Bonzi for 1~2yr. starting @ $4.2mil. with player option and he can try again next summer. Denver offered an 1yr. $3mil. contract, well, atleast they aren't affraid to try. imo, 2yr. contract starting @ $4.2mil. with 2nd yr. player's option isn't too bad for Bonzi at this point and TE + a draft pick is exectly what the Kings want as they sign Bonzi's replacement already. Bonzi should be a good fit for this team, we need a pit bull who's not affraid to mix it up. Bonzi's rebounding ability at 2 also makes me feel more comfortable to see Battier as our starting PF; Yao's as good a passer as Miller, I could see Yao feeds a cutting Wells for layup perfectly.
Solid argument for the possibility. If he is going to take a one year deal would he get more anywhere else than the 4.2. The Kings would rather get back something that didn't put them into LTAX territory than get nothing at all. The real question is do we want his attitude. At this point chemistry and filling a role around T-mac and Yao is more important than sheer talent IMO. Talent alone isn't going to bring the finals back to Houston.
Wouldn't that be sweet? Yao, Deke, Cato? Battier, Howard, Hayes TMac, Novak, Snyder Wells, Head, Azubuike? Alston, Spanoulis, JL3 Solves the 3rd scorer problem. Head being a great compliment to Wells. With a little tweaking as far as the bench goes that would be one hell of a lineup. Sweet.
If Denver made a $3 mil offer, we definitely should try the TE. I'd rather try TE for 2 years without player option. Will Kings help the transaction though?
I think we need another backup C/PF. I don't know how much Deke has left in his tank. Last year it didn't look good.
I agree, and I think his expiring contract will be a more valuable trade asset closer to the Trade deadline. Bring in someone that allows us to use his contract.
He can create his own shot which is needed on our team. He would be a good addition for one year. The Kings probably won't help us out though.
Wouldn't the Kings have to agree to sign and trade Bonzi for the trade exception to go into effect? If that's the case wouldn't the rockets have to entice the kings with a first round pick, a player, or another trade asset for Geoff Petrie (arguably the craftiest GM in the NBA) to agree to a sign and trade?
Yes you are right Clips/RoxFan. The Kings would want a lot from the Rockets and probably would prefer to trade him to the Eastern Conference instead.
This is a reasonable question and there would have to be a possibility if the Rox were interested, as I wish they would be.
Even if he doesn't fit in, he is in a good contract. It is easy to trade him for something better later. What about Rashard Lewis?
IF wells can be signed in a short term deal, I'm all for that. He's a good third option, mismatch for just about any 2 guard in the league. He can also take over a game. He is a good signing if only the T/E is in play.
Does anyone know which teams still have their full MLE in tact?? And if so, how do you know that they are not still pursuing him or might do so? With his playoff performance I don't see why teams wouldnt be all over this with their full MLE. I really think it's too early to say that the market for Bonzi has dried up. And there's no way in hell Bonzi would accept a 4.2 TE in a SnT over a full MLE deal. And personally the attitude problem isn't too much of a concern for me because there were far worse problem childs that have made more of a positive impact on their teams than a negative one (ie Rasheed Wallace).
