Yes I am behind the techno. curve, but we got our first player and movies that for some reason my wife wants to wrap till Christmas...whatever. Is it that much better than traditional DVD? (p.s. I do have an HD ready T.V. if this matters)
Great question, I have a PS3 but have not hooked it up yet. How much difference is there between regular DVD and Blue Ray? DD
There is clearly a difference, especially if your television can handle the high definition feed through an HDMI cable. If you already have bluray capable hardware, I'd go ahead and hook it up. If you don't, there are some good deals on bluray players out there this Christmas. Also, for the Bluray watcher: Netflix is great. DD: The PS3 is still widely considered the best bluray player on the market with the quality of some of the more expensive units built in.
I see a huge difference in the picture at my home. I think you need to have a decent tv also. The movies are freaking expensive though! I just got mine, so I'm kind of late in the game also.
Big difference in picture and sound. The PS3 upscales DVD's really nice and can almost compete with broadcast HD content but Blu-Ray basically kills it. You will really notice it if you have a 50+ sized 1080P display.
I guess that depends on how much stock you put into improved video quality and improved DVD features...especially with how the menus work and the interactivity. I'm sure some people will say it's not that big a deal...while others will swear it is so much better. If you are one of those procrastinators who was slow to adapt to HDTV thinking your older standard 4:3 set was good enough, then this probably isn't going to rock your world. If your one of those people who were blown away by the improvements in audio/video HD offers, then this will certainly be a welcome improvement. It all depends on the person. There's always some Joe Blow who claims he can live with his current non-HDTV and standard DVD player...even though HD is consuming the market currently.
I guess that seals it then, I know which TV is getting the Blue Ray.....though all 4 of my TVs in the house are 1080p. DD
T2 or Stargate for $10 each at Wally-Martínez??? How about BOTH!?!?!? GOT 'EM last night. I played T2's LionsGate intro... and I was SOLD. The MAIN FREAKIN' MENU on T2 is awesome in Blu-ray Disc. You don't know what you're missing. Shoot, I don't even have a 1080p (it's a Sony Wega 1080i) and I was sold when I saw the intro alone. My brother has the Samsung Blu-ray player that got sold bundled with his 1080p LCD and he showed me Relentless Enemies... too freakin' real it's SCARY. If I could recommend a good movie, it would be that one. The DVDs on the PS3 moes sold me look WAY BETTER upscaled on it than upscaled on the JVC DVD recorder I have. MONSTERS, INC. looks great... almost blu-ray-like. Now I will only use the DVD machine to record old movies and/or Texans' games, and the PS3 to view ALL effin' movies. Blu-ray ROX. DaDarkOne, you have to try it soon. Trust me .
The biggest in house TV in my house is only 46"...but I do have a 101" HD outdoor theater....but I don't want to leave the PS3 outside. DD
For those who like High Definition programming, I recommend the "Planet Earth" series on Bluray as a good starter set. The BBC version is better than the US version for narration.
They were selling that for $29-$30 after a $5 coupon a couple of days ago. I think it went up in price to $49-$49 or something now, though. It used to sell for around $100. I was going to buy one even though I don't have a large screen 1080p tv or a bluray player. lol.
