Is Bit Torrent safe? more specifically for Macs

I know the torrents you download can be harmful, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the actual Bit Torrent tool/protocol.

I just want to download the torrents provided by R2K.

Also, would having Bit Torrent slow down the overall performance/speed of my Macbook? Thanks

You should always be careful of what sources the files come from, but it shouldn't be a problem. I use it on my mac hundreds of times daily.

The internet is risky business...especially for Mac users.

Perhaps a hyperbole, but my point is made. I take my internet seriously and so should you all.

    Another Mac question,

    What's the best anit-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware for Macs?

I have ClamXaV right now, but it seems that it only scans one file at a time.

I'd like something that monitors my mac more regularly.

Also, what do you guys think of the torrent protocol: Transmission. It seems to have better reviews than BitTorrent for Mac

I thought according to the PC VS. MAC commercials, that macs didn't get viruses and stuff like that?

    Apple Issues Quicktime Security Fix

    Winner Emerges

Congratulations to our first winner of the CanSecWest PWN to OWN contest! At 12:38pm local time, the team of Charlie Miller, Jake Honoroff, and Mark Daniel from Independent Security Evaluators have successfully compromised the Apple MacBook Air, winning the laptop and $10,000 from TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative. They were able to exploit a brand new 0day vulnerability in Apple's Safari web browser. Coincidentally, Apple has just started to ship Safari to some Windows machines, with its iTunes update service. The vulnerability has been acquired by the Zero Day Initiative, and has been responsibly disclosed to Apple who is now working on the issue. Until Apple releases a patch for this issue, neither we nor the contestants will be giving out any additional information about the vulnerability. You can track the vulnerability on the Zero Day Initiative upcoming advisories page under ZDI-CAN-303.
