I remember reports from Austin or Galveston that he was uhh fast and energetic..I even have videos of him shooting some free throws. That was cool. But uhh I think he's too skinny..
The chances of Badiane scoring more than 3 points a game in Germany are less than the chances of Eddie Griffin coming back to the Rockets and winning an MVP trophy. For the love of god, why in the hell do people think this guy is remotely decent, let alone better than what the Rockets are stuck with now? Just because the Rockets used a second round pick on this guy doesn't mean ****; how many times has Dawson drafted well???
Shouldn't that say in the 2nd round? Cuttino, Othella etc..etc..etc... For the record, I am not saying he is the answer, just thinking it might be time to find out if he can play or not. How could he be any worse than Mo or JH? DD
For the record, Badiane played and started the 1st three games of this euro league season for the A team, was touted by his team and the newspaper as an upcoming star. Then injured his shoulder and had to have season ending surgery. So it appears he was working his way up the food chain the last three seasons: B team, A team 2nd string and then A team starter until this injury. Ready for the Rockets? Could he do any worse than what we have? But let's see how he is when he heals. Training camp next october? Probably depends when his contract with the Germans is up.
I agree. Badaine is nowhere near ready. It really is sad that we are looking at a guy who barely plays in Germany to help us out.
he might be the most talked about player who never played for us...and probably never will....that we have ever had.
I would take a chance with Badiane on Dirk than JH or MoT. Being 6-11 with long arms is exactly the type that should be guarding the fast and long pfs in the NBA nowdays, instead of the short and slow types of MoT and JH. Based on the video clips I saw, I guarentee that Badiane will have a bigger impact than Ryan Bowen. If we can play Bowen, why not Badiane? It's not like Bowen has any talent or better physique than Badman.
Come on. Badiane has never played NBA defense and would foul out in five minutes against Dirk. Honestly people; Badiane right now probably isn't even at the level of a Jerome Moiso, who we could sign for the minimum if we wanted to.
Yes he probably will, that's why they call it learning curve. I can't believe JVG took Ryan "one-rebound-in-ten-minutes" Bowen over Badiane. He must hate developing young players.
When we signed Bowen, we weren't in "let's develop young talent" mode, we were in "this team is good enough to contend for home court, let's fill out the roster with role-players". I still don't think it's time to switch gears just yet. We still have a very good shot at sneaking into the playoffs as the 7th or 8th seed.
how in the world coulod a badiane threat get 5 stars? i do not see him in a rockets uniform. Nachbar can't even play for van gundy so Badiane wil never play for him
Agreed on your good point. However, Bowen's experience doesn't make up for his lack of talent and explosiveness. On the other hand, our weakness at the 4 is thouroughly exposed this season. All 4 of our 4s have one common trait. Lack of size and athleticism. Consequently we are subject to the exploitation of today's NBA pfs who often boast either athleticism or size, sometimes both, such as Dirk Nowitsiki. It's no coincidence that he dropped 53 points on us. Our pfs don't rebound, don't block shots and don't hustle(except Padgett in stretches). Lack of size and athleticism at the 4 is our achilles heels this season. Not lack of experience at the backup 3. I think Badiane has a chance to alleviate that woe to certain degrees. I feel people have the assumption that the pro league around the world still suck like ten years ago, despite the fact that the US team has been beaten multiple times in international competition. Such thinking leads to the assumption that one player has to dominate at his position in his league to play in the NBA. I think it's safe to say that there's NBA level players in the Euro league but don't play here for some reasons. Nachbar never dominated any pro league but he is a fringe NBA player with potential. The same can go for Badiane. One doesn't need to dominate the Euro leagues to play in the NBA anymore following the rise of their levels. Also, to play in the NBA, it's enough to be a specialist without much other talent. Ryan Bowen, Mark Madsen and Shawn Bradley are examples of that. I think those guys won't dominate any Euro league or even start, but that doesn't make them disqualify for an NBA contract. Given Badiane's size, athleticism, hustle and a decent offensive arsenal, I think it won't hurt to see if he can make it in the NBA and help diversify our pf spot.
if Badiane is healed from surgery by early summer, and his German team contract is expired (?? don't know) then bring him over to play in Houston for the summer with the mix of NBA'ers who hang out and then see how he does - then at least we have an idea of how his athleticism and size (and speed?) rank him vs NBA class players. And we find out how much he lacks in training and development. Seems like this could be done fairly inexpensively.... If he shows promise in the summer then invite him to camp and see how often he can dunk on and block our current Powder-puff Forwards (PPF's). This also begs the question: if Gundy keeps our 1st round pick are we going to suit up a summer league team? Are we actually going to do something to help develop some of our younger roster talent? Are there any of the leagues that would let a Boki - an older but undeveloped player in? AB would qualify. The older end of the roster can play in one of the senior leagues
