Is anyone else in here taking part? I first started playing late last year, and I have to admit, I'm hooked...Would be interested to see if any CC members are also involved...According to my calculations, there are something like 250, 000 players...If you're not playing, say a little prayer for me, will ya? If you want to sign up, there's an overall winner, which you're probably too late to have a chance at, but there are weekly winners and prizes...go to NBA.com, and look for the link to Virtual Gm...

It sucks now. It used to be a lot better when you only had 80 points to distribute and the player ratings fluctuated wildly. Locking players in at low ratings was a huge part of the game, but now with 100 points to distribute, you can pretty much take a top five player at every position.

During the game's first season, I remember getting Pippen locked in at 4.something and getting Dennis Rodman locked in at 0.8, and then keeping them for most of the year.

There was way more strategy to it back then.

While I agree that there is a propensity to pick stars, I have actually fluctuated quite a bit, and with success. I think that the idea is to pick and choose based on matchups, and am probably doing better than a lot of the guys just picking the star at every position every night...so are you playing?

The key is to consistently pick the second tier stars that will go off on a specific night. If you pick the big name stars (Iverson, Kobe, Garnett) on a consistent basis, you will score well, but will not win. I usually try to pick a mix of players, but still tend to rely on most of the big name players (excluding Shaq...there are no other centers that will score like he does and I've been burned too many times by that cigarette smoking flop Divac).

I wish I had started playing the game from its initial inception. This is my second year of doing it. One of my coworkers is also involved and we try to collaborate during the week as to which players we will pick...and usually with a lot of success. He missed a few days in the beginning and has since dropped out, but I'm trying to get him back in it when the scores reset at the halfway point.

Virtual GM is not the best fantasy game ever invented, but it does keep me interested in the Atlantas and Chicagos of the NBA. Plus, I spend most of my mornings at work trying to figure out which team to pick.

(Just a hint...never take Derrick Coleman!!!)

I'll watch for you...What's your team name and where are you ranked? My team name is the James Gang, and going into lastnight I was 6th, but I'm sure I've fallen a bit because I had Andre Miller for last night's game and didn't know he was injured until today...

    Group: Jim Rome Clones
Name: Right now it's 'Yo Mamma's So Fat...', but I change it on occasion.

As of this morning, I'm third in our group, but overall, 5287. I had worked my way to the upper 2000's before Vlade killed my momentum.

    Good luck!

As fadeaway says it used to be a lot better. It was so much fun the first season.
The only thing important to get a lot of points now is to pick the player that plays the most games that week or plays the next day (depending on if you are playing the week or the day game).
So you check wich teams are playing the most games next week or the next day, and with 100 pts to distribute you can pretty much pick the best players on those teams.
It´s no fun at all, the fun part used to be getting the underrated players, and then tease your friends because they didn´t get ´em when their rating was low.
Now as I said before the only thing to do is to count games, and the player ratings hardly change at all.
NBA.com should be ashamed of themselves for totally ruining the game that used to be good fun.
