Rockets have everything this year. They have a big 3: TMac + Yao + Scola/James/Francis/Battier/Bonzi (whoever decides to show up). They have depth: 2 Starting Lineup worth of depth and still extra players like: Luther/Harris/Novak/Landry They have defensive mindset from JVG and now offense from Adelman. They don't really have any major flaws. Is any team really as good as them at this pt? And if you are gonna name a team name: Mavs or Spurs NOT Celtics because they are a joke. A big 3 with no other talent AT ALL... they aren't gonna do much.
let's not get cocky now. being good on paper does not translate to wins on the court. right now, health/chemistry... can mess it all up and no one cares if your team suffers through that. IF we play to our POTENTIAL, then yes, i don't see any team beating us in a series of 7. but if the best team on paper always wins, why play the games?
They don't have rings, or even a single playoff series win amongst their 3 best players, which is something the Spurs have. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
what fun is that? if every team forfeits right now and the rox wins, u'd be happy? i want to knock the crap out of the best teams right now and laugh in their faces while they can't say anything back. the smell/taste of ultimate victory
I like your optimism speedy, but the Rockets have'nt done anything yet.....regardless let's start planning the parade...
No team in the league is good enough to carry our players jocks. end of story. Rox all the way, the only reason they wont just give us the trophy now is cuz stern wants to make money off of ticket sales, otherwise there would be no reason to play the season at all. Just look at kobe, he's trying to get out of the west so he doesnt have to deal with us, he knows whats gonna happen on opening night at staples (which is where i will be)....... we gonna give kobe a taste of his own medicine, rape him
There are a whole passel of teams, and their fans, who feel as confident as we. This could be a tough year to win 50; or lose 50.
here is one major flaw: Rockets don't have a superstar who is a winner and all heart. one minor flaw: Alston starts. --------------------- Rockets are good on paper, as always. They really need to walk their talk this time, especially TMAC and Yao.
The only team that can be even close to as good would be the 2003 Rockets - "One of the great teams ever assembled"
It is yet to be seen if our PG and PF weaknesses have been fixed. We made some acquisitions but it's still early.
we have a superstar who is a winner and all heart- scola he is a euroleague superstar though hard to question heart at times imo yao is constantly showing the desire to be better....tmac shows it at times but not always like yao does... winners yeah they havent won big yet but still early in their pairing (4th year--really only 3rd year considering year 2 was injury plagued) took kobe and shaq what 4 years before they won?
The Spurs are the favorites until proven otherwise. People keep talking about all the offensive talent Houston has....that's true, but truth be told is that the Spurs are already what Houston hopes to soon be. Last year, they were a top5 defensive AND offensive team in the NBA, ranking 4th in offensive efficiency and 2nd in defensive efficiency. On top of that, they've already proven over the past half-decade that their core can execute championship-level basketball deep in the playoffs. Houston hasn't. Even if all goes well for Houston during the regular season and we win somewhere around 55-60 games, IMO you still have to worry about the severe lack of deep postseason experience on the ballclub when going against a team like the Spurs, Suns or even the Mavericks.
Until the Rockets get out of the 1st round of the playoffs, then Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, and Utah should be ranked higher.
