There are some early similiarities... but c'mon man. This guy has to put together at least TEN straight seasons of this type of play before you even CONSIDER this statement. He could do nothing after Nash hangs it up, and thus he would have just been a by-product of a great guard. Hakeem also constantly added to his game EVERY year... culminating with go-to moves such as the baseline fadeaway and the jump hook, and as consistent of a jump shot as there ever was. Also, I can tell you that Amare will NEVER be the defensive player Hakeem was. Never. Hakeem just had a special instinct in blocking shots that was the perfect combo of athleticism, skill, quickness, timing and grace.
Wow I didn't know Amare Stoudemire was a member of Clutch BBS. So Amare I take you're not a YOF. Also have you been to any of Jeff's show's or do you have any dating advice for him and what do you think of Houston light rail?
Also - Hakeem's one of the greatest most dominant post up players of all time. Amare's got ways to go in that department.
I don't see the similarities. Pervis Ellison was a good player who was derailed by injuries (he averaged 20/11 one year), Amare just can't create his own shot, and isn't the rebounder/shotblocker that an athletic freak like him should be. As for Hakeem, even in his first few years in the league Hakeem had better footwork than Amare currently has. Right now, Shawn Kemp or Larry Nance are better comparions.
And he had another solid season the next year, averaging 17/8. Then his body fell apart. I can't hold that against him.
Agreed. But he does play like a young Akeem. Yes. Like the Dream, nobody can really stop Amare once he gets the ball inside the paint.
