Patience may be a virtue, but i'm just not so sure if Aaron is
the answer long term for the Rockets PG.

has had his chances during the season, and by all accounts was baked on the defensive end and out of control alot of the time offensively.

can he be a solid set 'em up 1 in the NBA - or just a undersized SG with an slightly above average shot?

management obviously thinks he is the future, as much has been invested in this guy (esp. if you believe the rumors that he was the deal-breaker in Artest discussions)

but I have some serious reservations.

I honestly think Brooks is overrated because people have a tendency to like little guys. I think he belongs in the league, but either as a backup PG on a good team or a starting point guard on a bad one, a.k.a. Tyrone Lue.

kinda like to see rookies, especially at point, given the time to develop.

    question is premature imo ...

The best he can hope to be is TJ Ford. And TJ has crazy dribbles and he can shoot the ball really well from midrange. I like Aaron, but I don't see how you can pin the hopes on a 5'10" guard to solve your PG woes. The league is going bigger and bigger at poing guard. If you are not a solidly built 6'2", you are likely to be at a disadvantage.

It's too early to tell if his skill level is so superior that he can overcome his size issues.

He regressed after the initial set of games where his speed took everyone by surprise. He just doesn't have that PG/playmaking vision that the good ones see a play develop 2 or 3 plays ahead. TMac has that vision, and also being 6'9 and able to pass over shorter defenders helps.

Hopefully he can make improvements in the summer games and if I were him I would start playing at the Fonde also in his off time.

I doubt he will ever be an effective starter in the NBA. A decent rotation player? Maybe. How much of an improvement he makes next season will say a lot.

He's 6'0" btw and I'm with WMJ. He just turned 23, he's not a 26 year old developed rookie like our other ones.

Let see, he's an undersized shoot first pg who hasn't shown he could make his shot in the nba. His court vision is below average So, no. Speed isn't everything. And that's all he's shown he has at this point.

Brooks is not six feet. that was evident when he guarded Iverson back in January in tha overtime game.

Even if he doesn't turn out to be a starting solution at point guard, I think the management did the right thing in keeping him, rather than renting Artest for a third of a season.

he's not playing much right now b/c we're stashing him until the playoffs where we surprise the other team with his speed. :)

Wasnt Iverson "supposed to be" around 5,10 as well? If he was shorter than Iverson, then he might be 5,8-9. Without shoes, of course.

Good lord, and I thought I have no patience.

I don't know what kind of a player Brooks can be, but I know even Adelman can't tell you the answer right now. So much depends on how Brooks work on his game in the offseason, his dedication, and opportunity.

I'd imagine PG to be by far the hardest position to learn in the NBA. Even Deron Williams looked to be an disappointment after his rookie season.

I think next year we definately need to go after Jose Calderon. The guy is a true baller. With that said, I think Brooks needs to play backup for one more season before he can start.

this thread look to be ripe with classic quotes. brooks has struggled at times, with running the offense and with his shot, but at other times he's looked like a perfect fit. he's had games where his stroke has really shown through and has thrown some very nice passes. if adelman and morey see enough in him to keep him then maybe he's worth something. they were right about scola and landry.

He can play, he is a rookie at the toughest position to learn.

Let's see how he develops....but the draft will tell a lot about how the Rockets really feel.

Chances are there will be no classic quotes in this thread. Great point guards under 6 feet are one in a generation. The Tiny Archibalds are very rare.

There are currently no point guards under 6 feet starting in the NBA with the expection of Jameer Nelson and he's not very good.

Aaron Brooks has to have exceptional talent and IQ to be a very good or great point guard and I don't know if he has it. He is really fast and he can dribbble the ball, but a point guard is much more than that. It's leadership, knowledge of the game, fundamentals.

Maybe he can be more Allen Iverson than John Stockton. Speaking of John Stockton and also Steve Nash, they aren't very quick or athletic, but they make up with excellent vision, passing and shooting.
