Although I'm originally Iranian, I'm rooting for these guys too. TY\hey have some genuinely talented players... It's not like they're surviving on heart... There's the one guy who playsa contral role for them, dark skin, white shoes... Forgot his name. He's got great technique.

Hey Sane...I´m iranian as well...good to know there are others on the board....peace.

I watched the game as well here in Barcelona where i am vacationing and it was clearly in the hands of the Iraqi team, they played much better and there were some clear fouls that were not called on Portugal and they got away with some cheap shots.

Are you talking about the goal scorer who got hurt? cuase i believe his name was something Mahmoud.

I'm Iranian by blood, but I feel like such an outsider among Iranians. Been living in the U.A.E. my entire life, and actually have the passport, speak arabic, went to arabic school... My parents are definitely Iranian, but they grew up there so that's why...

I believe Rivaldo (the poster) is half Iranian as well.

    Stack,

Not talking about the goal scorer... I 'm not sure but I think they guy's name was actually either Qusai or Udai...

    Greece wins the Euro Cup.
Iraq wins gold in soccer. (maybe)
What next, the US winning the World Cup in 2006?
    I hope Iraq medals.
I was also wondering about the difference between Persian and Iranian? Is there any? I know a girl from Iran who prefers being called Persian instead Iranian, that's why I asked.

Not a big expert or anything, but I'm guessing she doesn't like the new regime.

I have a friend who prefers to be called Persian in Canada, but prefers to be called Iranian over here.

Maybe the word "Iranian" has been smeared by terrorism while Persian refers to the former great empire, which is kinda cool.

Prince of Persia ruled. And I too am rooting for Iraq. Don't gotta worry about them being tortured if they lose.

Like Sane said, its just a matter of preference...both are the same thing. "Persian" just has a nicer sound to it, so many go by that.

And yes, persian girls are hot...now if I could only land me one.

Yes that is correct...I wish I spoke farci though but never took time to learn. Do you guys speak it?

I caught the last minutes of the Costa Rica game and Iraq was moving the ball around nicely. Would be nice for them to win a medal especially with all those torture of athlete stories that came out in SI last year.
