It is not George bush's fault. This country is just messed up. They need to realize they live in 20th century, but I guess a lot of countries are like this. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/li...ticle_id=455400&in_page_id=1879#StartComments
The authors don't necessarily agree with that sentiment... Anyways, I still manage to chuckle at people who make the mistake of assuming that "democracy" implies a progressive, peace-loving citizenry. I guess turning Iraq into a "democracy" means that their citizens will ultimately embrace gay marriage and be pro-choice.
I hope these "Honour Killers" die a long, excruciating death... Karma baby karma... always comes back 10x harder..
The whole event is horrendous, these parts in particular got to me... If they can stop public lynchings over here (albeit just 50-60 yrs ago), then I guess we can hope this stops in the Third World eventually. Gotta go find a Middle Eastern women's rights group to donate to (only way I can personally think of to help).
Everyone knows Muslims practice honor killings in those third world countries. It's pretty sickening that someone would slaughter a family member like that regardless of what they may have done wrong. But, as in everything else they do, I suppose they believe Allah wants them to kill them in those situations. That's why the rest of the people stand around and watch...like it's normal. I personally will never understand nor tolerate such a practice. I think anyone that does that kind of thing should die themselves.
I think we should be thankful that half of the world still lives in the past, other wise,Oil would be hard to come by...
Yes, it is. But we are screwed up for not realizing this before launching the war. This was happening before the US got there and will keep happening after the US leaves.
One of the many ways that people justified the killing of the indigenous populations in what would become the United States was to emphasize their condition as “savages”. They would point out practices that were not ‘civilized’ and repeat them Ad nauseam until the Indians didn’t seem quite so human. Once they were relegated to a sub-human status, killing them wasn’t too hard. I am not saying it is occurring here, but these ‘look at how savage they are’ stories always make me a bit uncomfortable because I know that a possibility of the same thing happening exists. If they are savage ‘rag heads’ instead of people, who cares if they die? Keep in mind three generations ago in this country (at least in the South) the entertainment on a Saturday night was to go out, find a big black man, and hang him for some fabricated transgression. Of course there are things that the Iraqis do (like this) that upset me. I think the remarkable thing, however, is the unique tolerance and goodness of the society in which we live. My impression is that things such as this story are the norm for human societies, while our style of tolerance (even with its imperfections) is fleeting and rare, and should be cherished and protected as such.
This thinking will make it easier for people not to care when Iraqis are massacring each other after the US leaves. Agreed.
Conquistador, what if I said it is good that some people live in the past or bananas would cost more?
