I know this is a wacky idea, but I wonder if any thought was given to asking Iraqis to join the USA, let them be our 51st and 52nd states?

Do you think they would consider it? I wonder...give them freedom, states, rights, etc..etc..etc...

There is no chance they would consider it. The only question is how offended and upset they would be, and how much additional violence such an offer would generate.

NO, can you imagine the repurcussions of even suggesting it??? The international community would be yelling modern-day imperialism till the cows come home!!!

Not if the Iraqis chose it in an election.

What in the world would they have to gain?

Why would it make sense for either Iraq or the US?

What substance were you abusing when you came up with this idea?

[rquoter]All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?[/rquoter]

No, I don't think they would.

Odds would be better that Jeff Bagwell would learn to throw left handed so he could start playing baseball again.

sure, if DC is given representation, then we'd have new red and blue states.

Wow that is the dumbest idea ever. We as Americans talk about freedom from tyranny and oppression yet we unilaterally impose our will on the rest of the world. If this ever happens then say what is going to stop Russia from recreating the old soviet bloc or China from a hostile takeover of Taiwan and such. Nope this isn't going to be justifiable to the rest of the world after the bogus intelligence to support this war and the handling of coalition after the invasion. What kind of precedence are we setting for everyone else?

I think they will be glad to join USA. The question is whether USA can afford it. Think how many troubles (finicial and social) the west Germany had to handle after they took over east Germany. So considering the current economic status of USA, it will be a huge burdern for America to do that.

That is what I am saying......I just thought it would be fun to discuss.

I don't think it likely, but I wonder if it ever came up.

    Bobrek,

This thread is right about the same level as my Bags should learn to throw left handed idea.

    :)

Was this thread designed purely to increase your massive post count?

Why would they? Puerto Rico doesn't even want in.
