The irony is that the bulk of our oil isn't even from "radical" Islamic states. Most comes from Oman and Saudi Arabia. We could get all the oil we wanted, if we really wanted it, from Russia, Canada and Saudi. Emerging markets throughout the US Gulf Coast and in South America are likely better sources than much of the ME anyway. Funny thing is, even most oil companies don't care about ANWAR even though that has become the central argument for ridding ourselves of ME oil. There is no infrastructure there and the amount of oil is negligible compared to other places in Canada and even the US. Notice that big oil companies aren't even lobbying for it because it would cost too much (there was a great story in the LA Times about this recently). The oil companies would rather just do land lease deals in other parts of the world because it is cheaper. I'm with you. I'd like to just get the hell out and leave them to their own craziness.
