Just bought a Shuffle for my girl. Problem is her computer is running Windows ME and it says that Itunes only runs on Windows 2000 or XP. So I can't set up the default music manager for the Shuffle.

Since the Shuffle is essentially a a flash memory stick shouldn't I just be able to add songs to the flash drive as if the songs were regular files? I tried this and they show up as being on the player, but then the Shuffle does not play them. Any suggestions on how we can use this damn thing w/o Itunes?

    What am I doing wrong?

No. The music needs to be in a very specific place.

If you feel like hacking, the directory tree (with one song) can be seen here:

My inclination is that you cannot just drop your music into the directory structure, the propietary playlists need to be dinked. A used iMac G3 on eBay goes for roughly the same price as the shuffle. Perhaps you should get her one of those, and avoid the hassles! ;)
