For those of you that have a Blackberry (which isn't company provided/paid for), why did you pick it over the iPhone? The reason I'm asking is because almost everyone in my office has a Blackberry, most of which are younger employees who don't have an office Blackberry (they bought it on their own). Aren't the service plans for the latest and greatest Blackberry just as pricey as the iPhone service plans? Is it because people don't want AT&T? Do they just refuse to buy Apple products? Maybe I just don't know enough about Blackberries, but at first glance...the iPhone 3GS seems FAR superior. Thoughts?
I like the tactile feedback of the blackberry's buttons. But I've played around with friend's iphones, and the touchscreen was actually surprisingly good, even with my huge hands. The data plans are each 30 bucks. So, no the price is pretty much the same. (This is accurate as of three days ago, since I called to check the price because my wife want to upgrade to an iphone)
I used to have a blackberry curve until i lost it at the gym. I just got a used iphone unlocked from craigslist and i love it. Its much more useful because of all the applications. the curve wasnt bad but with the new tmobile plan, i rather get an iphone and use their wifi.
I've heard other BB users mention this as well. Isn't that what text messaging is for? Who these days doesn't have unlimited texting on their plan?
Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for the iPhone on Craigslist? I just upgraded to the iPhone 3GS and am looking to sell my 3G 16gb (bought in February 2009).
The Blackberry was popular for a long time before the iPhone. And it is a good phone. People stick with what they are familiar with. (and happy with) Plus, before it was integrated into the iPhone, mail capabilities (like Exchange support) are going to make the BB the primary choice. Of course, that's no longer an issue. The iPhone's apps, UI and media capabilities put it over the top for me (and a lot of people).
I got mine for $400. it is a 3g 16g and has warranty on it. I wanted the 3gs bc i want the video on mine, but its a bit too much for me...Maybe later on when i have more money. how much are you selling urs for?
I thought same thing about it being the same as a text message, before I had a blackberry. Can't really explain why its that much better, but its a nice feature. Basically its just a quick Instant messenger with other Blackberry users. All my friends have it so thats how we communicate instead of texting. It also shows when other person has read the message. Can have multiple people chatting too.
The iPhone is just so easy to use. The touchscreen is great. Too many people think that the touchscreen keyboard is a negative (I did) but once you start using it, you really get the hang of it and it becomes very fast as you don't actually push any buttons like you would do on a blackberry. The auto correct is damn good most of the time as well. The screen size is great for browsing websites and other media uses and not having to use a trackball is a huge plus. All that along with the sheer amount of apps available makes for a phone that I probably won't be changing for a long, long time.
It's an instant message application that uses the internet. Just like chatting on MSN etc. I saw that someone else explained it, I'll add that you can send pictures etc. through the chat too and people receive them instantly.
I'm in Chicago now and have been trying to get $400 on Craigslist for the past week, with no luck (black 3G 16GB, great condition bought in February 2009)...the max I've been offered is $350. I'll be in Houston this weekend, seems like the market price is little higher down there, so I'll try my luck on houston.craigslist.org.
Google Talk does the same thing and more, it's a FREE application, instant messaging just like BBM. PLUS, you can talk to anyone one on any carrier and people on their computers. Pretty much anyone that has internet access and a gmail account. I love my Blackberry, I got it over the iphone because of 2 reasons. 1. being the price difference 2. i don't like touch screen for the keyboard. Can't wait for the touchscreen / full qwerty keyboard of the new blackberry.
I paid $300 for a 3g 16gb about a month ago in austin, great condition, with box. Is yours unlocked/jailbroken? If not, doing that might increase the market for you. Most people married to att aren;t looking on craigslist. its more the tmobile customers I think
I love my old Blackberry 8750 to death. I can't imagine being without it. I've held and played with iPhones a couple of times and while they seem nice (especially surfing the net), they ain't a Blackberry. The people I know with iPhones are so attached to them it's almost cultish.
