Ok, so I'm thinking of getting my fiancée an IPhone. Her contract is up (Alltel) and she will need to get a new phone/plan sometime this summer. For those who have one, is it worth it and what plan would you suggest? Also, what's AT&T's service like (I have Verizon).

Yes... very well worth it. Though if you are going to get her an iPhone.. wait until July when the new one comes out.

Depends on where you are. If you're in the city, ATT service will do ok. If you get out of the cities and the main roads, expect spotty service.

Verizon and Alltels coverage and customer service is top ranked. Between bad coverage in my area (mountains) and poor customer service, I wouldn't be caught dead with ATT. I would wait until verizon gets the Iphone.

Space Ghost is right; it's all going to depend on how ATT works for you.

Other than that, it's been great. One of the best piece of electronics I've ever owned. Between the updates and the huge App Store, I continue to get more and more out of the phone.

I use it constantly each day.

That's not going to happen any time soon. They were having discussions earlier, though its not likely to go through for 2010.

If you're concerned with ATT, there's always the choice of getting TMobile and unlocking an iPhone.

That is what my friend told me. He works at an Apple store and said he could unlock a IPhone for me. I don't know if it would work because I don't have minutes on my plan, only data plan. So I'm hesitant to do that...

I think i read though if you have t-mobile and a data plan that if you get an unlocked 3G iphone you'll still only get EDGE speeds because the frequency of AT&T's 3G is different from t-mobile's. Something to consider unless i'm wrong or partially wrong.

I"m still using my 1st gen iPhone and love it. Use it all the time and have never had any trouble with service. I drop way fewer calls than I did when I was with Verizon.

They seem to be $199 and $299 now. Are the new ones going to be much more expensive than that?

    Thanks everyone........

No.. the new ones are expected to be the same prices, BUT with bigger storage. The new 16 GB will now be $199 (3G version was $299) and they have a 32 GB now which will be $299.

EDIT: Also, I wanted to add, there have been a lot of rumors and reports circulating about AT&T capping the data plan and having different plans to choose from. That could say a lot of people money every month for their data plan.

Yeah, I've been an AT&T customer since this past July... haven't had a dropped call yet. That's pretty amazing considering I used to drop 1 to 2 calls in a span of 2 weeks with Sprint. I haven't had any problems around Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio either with the signal.

It is going to have a lot more features than just a bigger hd. Better camera, video, faster processor, more ram, a built in compass for turn by turn, better battery life...etc -- if rumors are to be believed.

I love my iPhone and I work for Verizon. I don't have a lot of complaints about AT&T. Verizon will not likely be getting iPhone anytime soon. As for AT&T capping their data plans.. they may offer capped for cheaper, but if they raise price for unlimited they will have a ton of pissed off customers. I don't think they will do that.

Yeah, I was going to make a thread just devoted to the new iPhone as the WWDC conference approaches soon.. since I am that kind of an Apple nerd, but I'll hold off on it until the time gets closer. There's a bunch of rumors swinging around though about the features including the ones you named up there.

I can honestly say I have had almost all the phones as soon as they came out and messed with them thoroughly and I have to say by far the Iphone has been everything I needed and more.

It just works like it's supposed to.

That's correct. You cannot get a 3g iPhone and get 3g speeds with it.

But I do get my EDGE connection on T-Mobile for 6 bucks a month, so I'm pretty happy with that :)

If you are in, or near downtown, ATT sucks.

Otherwise iPhone is a life changer.

    Thanks everyone.

Ok, so it sounds like the plan is to wait until June (or the summer) and just buy the new phone then. That's cool with me because I don't get wed and have to "take her on" until July. ;)
