So word on the street (literally) is that a large number of people are queuing in line outside of Apple's flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York City (see above) -- keep in mind the Cube is open 24 hours a day. Our intrepid girl-on-the-scene reports that the group is more than 60-deep, though most people seem confused about what they're waiting for, while some believe they're actually camping out for a 3G iPhone. Meanwhile, Apple reps tell us they're crowd-controlling iPhone buyers because otherwise they would be "screaming" at employees and clogging up the store. See what happens when you get short on stock?

I know someone who has informed me that they are waiting for a 3GB Iphone which won't be hitting the shelves until sometime in June.

    June.

So, are they just a bunch of idiots then? Or, they are just waiting on a non-3G iPhone? lol

If not a prank, then definitely a bunch of idiots, our consumer culture is out of control, which has been thoroughly documented over the past couple of years with people struggling to pay their debts.

Every bubble shall burst, and one day most of my fellow Americans will come around to the idea of living within your means, instead of consistently above it.

Yeah...I mean I don't want to hate on them or anything, it is original, but I have never laughed from it. It just isn't laugh out loud funny, its more of a smirk thing you look at for 10 seconds then go do something else.

By come around you mean forced into? We'll either fall under the greatest generation or the generation of the roaring twenties.

    :)

Pretty much, I will confess I am not entirely 'unhappy' about the rising cost of living. Instead of getting that new car you don't need or the larger-than-life house you can't afford, many middle-class Americans are -- for the first time in decades -- learning a new term, "budgeting". It's like a fat person who doesn't want to diet, then gets a gastric bypass and is forced to do what he should have done all along: not eat as much. Long term, it's good for everyone, indeed the very future of this country may depend on it. Now if we could just get our government around to the idea of 'fiscal responsibility'...

Quite paradoxical when we're a nation of cake havings-and-eatings.

You are missing out then buddy.

Definitely one of the best cities in the world!

I'll admit though, people in NYC will line up for anything. A couple of months back I was in Upper West Side and there was a line going all the way around the block for free gelato. People were waiting in line for over 2 hours for free $4.00 worth of gelato.

    Wow.

I never thought I'd like NY either. I went to go catch a Broadway show and see the Astros play the Mets. It was a nice surprise. The people were VERY nice. The angry New Yorker is really a bad rap. Everything was easily accessible without having to spend too much time on logistics.

Even people on the subway were friendly and helpful.

If you never go to NY, you are really missing something cool.
