looking for something to begin the investment process... truth be told, i dont have a lot of money right now, but i want to start putting money away in something - ira or something similar. i already have a 401k which i haven't even checked in well over 4 or 5 months, but there isn't more than a couple of g's in there anyways. any pointers? charles schwabb, etrade, etc?
For beginners I would suggest ... Target Date Retirement mutual funds for both your IRA and 401K. Six months of living expenses in a money market fund.
Although Fidelity says that there is a minimum of $2500 for each account, you can open them with nothing. It is only after your balance reaches at least $2500 where you get certain features on the account such as check writing etc. Are you currently employed? If not, you can move that 401k into an IRA. But if you wanted to be able to take loans off your savings, then keep it in the 401k
