I have had an interview last friday... it seemed to go well. One of the interviewers said I am definitely their top candidate. That should be a good sign right? I already sent out the thank-you notes. How long should I wait before I call back to them?
Don't know if there is actual protocol for this, but I typically waited a week. Just a courtesy call to see if there is anything else they need from you. Don't prod them about what they're doing and when they're doing it. In the meantime...keep looking.
Never trust them untill you have an offer in hand. You should keep on interviewing if you have that option.
Go for it - anytime between now and Friday afternoon. Just say thanks for the opportunity, do you need anything else, and that you look forward to hearing back from them.
Wow i've never given a company a follow up call unless they requested additional info. if they want you they want you. but yeah keep looking.
Not necessarily - My dad has given the job to guys that called back to say thanks over the people who didn't. It shows that you have persistence and can follow through on things.
It seems highly unlikely that your dad was looking at 2 candidates, and one was clearly the superior candidate all other things being equal, and the second guy calls to follow up, so your dad changes your mind and give him a job. maybe he does it, but if he does, it is likely just making a decision between two pretty much equal candidates. that said, it may make sense to call, but i wouldn't rush it. and definitely keep looking.
thank you for all the suggestions and advices. I think I may call if I don't hear anything back by Friday or Monday. I am expecting my thank you notes to arrive in mail within these two days. I don't want to be like I am pushing too much if I call so soon. I am definitely going to continue to look though. It just seems like opening doesn't come around too often, especially for someone who doesn't have experience in that field.
They may be interviewing several candidates and it could take a while. I've gotten an offer a few weeks after interviewing. That said, it probably wouldn't hurt to call, and it would show that you are really interested.
Usually if they "really" like you they will let you know pronto. That has been my experience at my current job.
When our group has hired in the past, we often get many qualified applicants and keeping themselves in our minds by following up often netted results. But be careful. There is a line between a polite follow up and annoying nagging. It also shows that after the interview you still have interest in their company. When you interview, you often are not only being interviewed, but you are interviewing them as well. Showing continued interest in the company and position is a positive.
Start calling every day precisely at 8:00 AM to show that you are ready to be there on time. If you get an answering machine say, "If you hired me, I would be here to answer this call and I wouldn't have to leave this message."
A week is about right but more than likely, once you call in a week, they won't know anything...the waiting game sux the most...
I didn't even realize it was necessary to follow up. I guess that is why I am homeless with no job. I still have internet access, though. If they like you so much, then why wouldn't they call you to hire you?
I don't know. Maybe they hate me. They maybe gathering at the company's kitchen now and saying, "Ha, that fool." Or maybe they already have a steady candidate, and they are using me for amusement. What am I going to do? What am I to do? Seriously though, it's difficult to wait.
