Did anyone hear the interview on 610 this morning with Jeff VanGundy's brother? He is an assistant coach on the Heat and talked about Hakeem. He had some good points.

He talked about how it is unfair how we compare Hakeem to how he was in his prime. That it would be unfair to compare any centers in the league (except Shaq) to Hakeem in his prime. He said we should be comparing him against other centers in the league and when you do that you realize you still have a good player. He said according to other coaches, Hakeem is still one of the feared post up players in the league, and that everyone knows he still has the ability to take over stretches of the game if we just give him a chance to. He compared him to Tim Hardaway, saying they might not both be what they once were, but they are still good players and still have the unique ability to to close games when their team needs them.

I think this is true, we spend so much time saying what he isn't anymore and we don't pay attention to what he is, and that is still a good center in this league. People are so high up on centers like Ratliff, but fail to realize that if Ratliff ever had years like Hakeem did people would be talking about how bad he is these days. So appreciate what we got people because there are a lot of coaches who would love to have an above average center in their lineup. By the way we are going to when our 3rd in a row today on way to our 5+ winning streak. Hakeem will have a good game because he knows how much the Heat and their coaches respect him. He should no that about us and our community. Long live the Dream.

I think everyone on this BBS will agree with me when I say we all appreciate Hakeem for what he has done and what he is today. We all know and understand that he isn't the player he once was, nor do we expect him to, but Hakeem needs to realize this too. Hakeem can still bring alot to the court that many other players can only "dream" of. Now it's up to him to want to fit in, play his role and contribute with the skills he currently has.

I'm glad to hear Van Gundy say that--it makes Hakeem worth even more to the Heat.

Or Pole, it's just tampering by attempting to drive a wedge between Dream and Rudy. [IMG]
