Another forum that I frequent (the name of which I will withhold so that this situation isn't exacerbated) recently had some, shall we say, "risque" photos of one of the female posters put up recently. The girl in question had originally posted them on a private forum (18+ as far as I know) and someone re-posted them in this other forum (totally public, anyone can sign up for free). She asked repeatedly for the pictures to be removed, to no avail. A lot of people are arguing that any uncopyrighted material on the internet is fair game for reproduction, and that this girl was dumb enough to post nude photos of herself on the internet, so she shouldn't be surprised that they are reappearing elsewhere. A few others, myself included, are pretty much saying, "**** rules and technicalities, this just isn't right." What do you guys think about this?
Read what I just posted in Isabel's thread in Hangout. I think what happened is appalling. If that site has that little accountability... well, just be glad we have someone like Clutch and the mods keeping things shipshape here. "private" means different things to different people, obviously. So does honor. Does it still exist? Keep D&D Civil!!
I agree with you, but I don't know if the law does. But, send me that forum's address and I'll tell those other fools off.
Some evidence might help with this tough case.... There is no internet privacy. There is no internet anonymity. Don't think some lunatic can't google you down with an IP sniffer if they really wanted to. Don't think the Feds can't hack your wireless in 3 minutes cold if they wanted to. Seriously, if there's anything of value and someone wants it, the only thing stopping him is determination.
