It's like my aparment is jinxed when it comes to electronics. After two years of nightmare with our internet I switched my router. Now I got a 2Wire router/modem and have to manually click on my network and type in the WEP key everytime I turn on the comp or bring it back from standby.

I emailed 2Wire and SBC and they had the following to say:

The problem you are experiencing is a Windows based problem with the computer enabling the TCP/IP stacks form hibernation mode.

Anybody have any idea how to fix it?

Also, now my Windows refuses to recognize my printer even though my network does. :( If anybody can help me fix both these problems I'll give you a ONE MILLION dollars!

Turn off WEP? WEP is pretty weak encryption, and there are other ways to keep people off your network, such as MAC filtering.

Turning off WEP won't fix the problem. What version of Windows are you running?

It should be an option on your router configuration. Your router documentation should tell you specifically how to do it.

Also, it sounds like your computer configuration is acting up. Sometimes Windows sometimes gets very strange bitrot. You may consider reinstalling Windows. Yeah, painful solution, but possibly necessary.

That sounds like you have WindowBlinds with an Apple skin. If you open Windows Explorer (or any other windows utility like Notepad) and go to Help/About it should show you what version of Windows you're running.

    - Can you give me step by step instructions on how to find out what Windows I am using?
    - Can you tell me how to ger rid off that stupid Apple icon?

To turn off the Window blinds skin, try to locate a little icon in your system tray (the set of icons on the bottom right corner of your screen) that looks like a palette & paint brush. Right click on it and select "Unload WindowBlinds". It might be hidden -- there should be a little button to the left of the tray to expand to show all icons.

Alternatively, you can go to Start Menu > Object Desktop > WindowBlinds > Unload WindowBlinds to do it.

As for your original problem, it seems like you have the latest version of Windows installed, so that's weird. Is this a laptop or desktop? Did you just buy the wireless card/adapter? It could possibly be a bug in the card drivers.

I can do neither of those things. I dont have that icon, nor when I click on the start menu (really the stupid apple icon) do I get anything that says object desktop. :(

Its a laptop. Computer is two years old, but got Windows installed on it then went out and bought a 2Wire modem/router to get rid of my linksys router.

The connection stays stable, which was a problem with a SBC modem and Linksys router. But now of course the problem is typing in the WEP key over and over again.

I dont know who to contact:

    SBC
    2Wire
    Toshiba
    Windows

The easy fix would be to not let it go into hibernation mode. Hibernation mode is not necessary. Just allow your power option to turn off the monitor and hard drive and you will be OK. My computer is on all the time and I never have problems.

    1) To find out what version of Windows. Click Start > Run > type in winver and click OK

    2) Try disabling the "Power off" function on your wireless adapter. To do that click Start > Control Panel (or Settings > Control Panel) > double click on System > click Hardware tab > Device Manager > click the + next to Network Adapters section then double click on your wifi card (if you arent sure what your wifi card is just make the following change on all the items in this section) .... when the properties are open cick the Power Management tab and uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device" option..then click OK

    I think 5.1 = Windows XP
So if SBC says its a problem with the TCP/IP stack you can reset it with the following command:
    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    To enter the command:
Click Start > Run > type cmd > OK > type the command at the prompt and press Enter > Reboot the computer.

I tried that and it did not work either. I'm just jinxed man.

    I did find this though:

    SYMPTOMS
You experience intermittent connectivity when you try to connect to a network from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. If the computer connects to the network, you may receive the following error message:
The Windows Time Service was not able to find a Domain Controller. A time and date update was not possible.

    CAUSE
This problem occurs because Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Internet Protocol security (IPSec) frames that pass through NAT-T are not correctly acknowledged by TCP/IP.

This problem has been reported to occur on computers that have one of the following network adapters:• Intel Pro/100VE and Intel Pro Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini
    • Intel Pro/100VE and ORiNOCO Wireless PCI
    • SiS 9000 PCI
    • RealTek 8139
