I'm fixing to move into a new townhome in a month and wondering if I should which internet service is best. I currently use AT&T and they have been pretty reliable except for the two times the dsl modem died on me...has anyone had any problems with comcast internet? I plan on getting the economy package...

I've never had a problem with AT&T or their modems, but I currently use Comcast because I have to and their service will just go down from time to time.

Cable internet is just plain faster than DSL. I've had both, and much prefer cable.

comcast sucks, internet goes down too much. They also have a cap for bandwidth.

This is what happens when you have a monopoly on cable.

oh man they cap bandwidth? on average, how much do you say that the internet goes down? once a week? ATT dsl is stable for sure, i only remember one or two times it was down the past 4.5 years i've had it.

atleast once or twice a month...and then the technician's they send out always take forever because of all the problems they have to fix...

    Stick with ATT for sure

If you're going to go with AT&T, be wary of their terms and conditions.

One day the internet stopped working, my dad couldn't figure it out - so he called CS - they told him his account was suspended, and they didn't know why. It took 3 hours on the phone and 2 managers to figure out the reason why. My parents have had their service suspended because someone "signed up for a Geocities account" (apparently a violation of their terms). I swear. I couldn't possibly make that up. Then once everything was sorted out, and we established that nobody had a Geocities account (i.e. we were NOT in violation of their Terms), they still wouldn't reinstate the service.

    Re-GD-diculous.

    Wow that is crazy..

But that is something just really unfortunate and probably never happens to someone every day...idk..

What???? Holy hell that's the most asinine thing I've heard in a while from an internet company.

That's mind boggling in terms of sheer stupidity. I've had ATT since they were swbell.net (about 8-9 years) and I've had a geocities account for the entire duration of service. Although now geocities is merged with yahoo, so maybe that makes the ATT empire happy.

I'd be thinking you could typically get some leverage out of that by immediately stating that you'd go to XXX competitor that doesn't do this kind of crap. Maybe, maybe not, but I'd still try it.

The above being said, I've been happy with AT&T overall. Their little bundled crap though is annoying and I've never had to put up with all of their DSL connection helpers and dialers, etc since I've been with them long before they became att yahoo.

Speed is great for what we pay (about $35 for a little under 5 mbit down and under 1 mbit up) and no major outages/etc. They are irritating me though because one of my accounts keeps getting flagged for spam every few weeks and then my password gets reset leading to tech support calls, but overall I'd say 8.5/10.

AT&T is too slow. I had comcast and then switched thinking it was the right move. Wrong. Comcast was about 5-10 times faster for me than AT&T. I think for cable and phone, you go with AT&T, but for internet you have to go with Comcast

I had Comcast for 3 years straight and I really like their service. Their service goes down from time to time and it's really frustrating with the slow speeds.
I was told that this would happen when a lot of traffic goes in at the same time it cause delays and your speed is affected by it.

Since I moved to Laredo, TX I installed AT&T DSL and it's been working like a charm no problems at all.

It all goes down to this if you want faster speeds go with Comcast but, don't over download or they will put a Internet cap and you will be crawling on the net. Even if you pay 50 or so bucks a month I really expect to get what I pay for which in this case I really didn't

If you want fast reliable speed go with AT&T DSL you pay less but, I would personally say it's more reliable. I have downloaded torrents averaging 10GB's a night and my speed hasn't been affected at all. When I would download almost the same with Comcast and by morning my internet connection would be SLOW.

Bottom line I would say get AT&T.
    Personal experience with both services.

This is true also. I download probably 100-150 gigs per year in terms of movies, tv episodes, apps, games, etc. AT&T hasn't complained once when I leave my comp on for days at a time downloading. I wonder how much you have to download before Comcast deems it too much though? Do they actually say or do you just get a call and they tell you they're capping your speed?
