For now this goes in here. I find it pretty interesting. I have known for a while managers could get traded, but it is very very rare in a straight forward deal (meaning not traded as compensation for a manager moving). Apparently the Marlins almost made a deal for Ozzie.

As much as I find Ozzie entertaining and a good manager, Loria must have been on crack to consider this. One of the premier young power hitters in the game for a good manager is not a fair deal, Kenny Williams would have driven Ozzie to the airport and bought him courtside Tix to see Lebron play if this would have gone through.

So is this really a trade or is it just a player being sent as compensation for a manager switching teams? I guess what I'm really curious to know is if a manager can be traded against his will.

Can Kenny Williams utter one sentence with expletives? Dude is an idiot.

I can't imagine Marlins fans would have been to pleased.

I had Mike Stanton on my fantasy baseball roster all year and kept waiting for him to be called up. I would visit the Marlins message board to see what the latest rumors were.

Pretty much 100% of their fan base was b****ing and moaning about the fact that Stanton had not yet been called up yet. Like half the threads on their MB were things like "When will Stanton get called up?" and "How many HR will Stanton hit in his first game?" and "I'm gonna blow Stanton first!"

I imagine a trade like this would have set Marlins nation over the edge.

I really like Ozzie Guillen, a straight forward manager who is not afraid to say what he's thinking.

He always seems to have his players back as well. I'm sure most players would love to play for him.

I agree. Stanton is a stud. This deal would make no sense.

Except when he doesn't and publicly attacks them. Which happens quite a bit.

    He's crazy.

You can't get people in Miami to care about baseball. They won two World Series and they still don't care about the Marlins.

Agreed. For fans, it's the Mike Gundy tirade syndrome - people take one quote or act out of context and decide he's some "stand up guy" who has his players back. They miss the pattern and the big-picture reality, which is that the acts are attention-driven stunts. Williams is crazy.
