I read it on another site. Houston trade: Francis #15 Clippers trade: Odom #8 Houston then selects Dunleavy OR Wagner with the fifth pick. Houston selects Brochardt OR some other solid defender and rebounder with the 8th pick. Rockets lineup could be something like this...... Cato/Brocardt OR ?? Mo t/Griffin/Thomas Dunleavy OR Odom Odom OR Wagner Mobley It ain't all that bad. Ok here come the Francis lovers.....
Francis will be a Rocket for a long time. No need to bring up trade offers for Steve for at least another 6-7 years.
Odom is good, but no 3 places in any draft will make up the difference between him and Francis. I'd do this thouh: Mooch Francis for Odom #8 #12 Mcinnis or Dooling
I agree, I would not make this trade.....Francis and Odom have high upside, but Odom has issues with Drugs, and Steve has issues with Migraines. On second thought, I might make this trade.....Odom is an equal talent to Steve and he is a taller player. Nah, I would still keep Steve and try to acquire Odom another way, now if it was Cat for Odom...SAYANARA !!! DaDakota
Amazing how bad that trade was. but I do want odom and olowakandi on the rox next year though. I say: kt #15 cato torres for odom kandi #8 piatkowski
Why? The 8th pick carries more value than the 15th. Olowokandi is a better center than Cato probably ever will be. Even at the worst, they are equal. There is simply no comparison between Odom and KT in terms of skills. Odom is infinitely more talented than KT and, assuming his head is on straight, will be a force in the league for years to come. And Piatkowski is their designated long range shooter. He started much of the season at SG and made some key plays for that team this year. He may not be that good, but he means a lot more to them than Torres would, who is redundant with the other SG/SF talent there. Finally, they can't trade Kandi because he's a free agent. Thus, the deal doesn't work from a cap standpoint. I don't think they'd even consider such a deal....it makes no sense for them.
If I were the Rockets I would be very relunctant to consider trading Francis for anyone. Lets not forget how long the Rockets organization wanted a threat at the point. Now we have one. Trading him away for a number eight plus Odom w/ number fifteen isn't appealing. Before this season there was alot of talk about Clippers making some noise by possibly making the playoffs but they didn't end up much worse than we did this season. Whether it be because of the packed western conference or injuries or just that they flat out had their a**es handed to them I don't see much more potential in a Rockets team with #15/Francis out and #8/Odom in.
Perhaps, but you've gotta start talking Eddie Griffin and a pick and work from there; some of the other deals being bandied about are simply not going to get it done. Assuming Odom, in fact, is on the block.
Please tell me you are joking. The #8 is worth KT and the #15 ALONE. With #8 still having a shot at former top 5 candidates before a few late entries. With Ming, Williams, Gooden, Dunleavy, Butler, Wagner, Woods, Tskitishvili and Wilcox all out there, at least one of them has to slip to that pick. 15 is still nice, but not nearly as valuable as 8, and many on the bbs have mentioned the idea of packaging KT and #15 to move up to a pick around 8 or 9. So, the rest of the trade features Cato and Torres for Olowokandi, Odom and Piatkowski. Cato's contract makes him practically a negative in trades. Torres is a cool guy and hard worker, but does not carry much trade value at all. Olowokandi is on the verge of becoming a monster inside. Considered a "bust" by many, because of his #1 pick status, he has had a pretty average career. But anyone who watched him over the second half of last season knows that the Kandiman is for real. At 7-1, he's a huge body and his game is really improving. He has also developed a pretty nice inside game, getting better at his little hook shots every year. Odom has his problems off the court, but is still a 6-10 versatile SF that has incredible handles for his size. He is an all-around player, good for around 15 ppg, 8 rpg and 5 apg, and is very unselfish with the ball. He has good slashing skills, as well as an outside shot, and of course a ton of potential. Piatkowski isn't spectacular, but is a very solid bench player and a great zone breaker, able to sink threes like a madman. So overall, the Clippers are trading away a pick in the range of future star talent for a good, but much lesser pick, and Kenny Thomas. Then they are taking on the contract that so many here have been dying for years to dump of Kelvin Cato, and not only do they dump the contract, but we get a couple of awesome young players at the positions that we are weakest at! If only you were the GM of the Clippers..
KT + #15 pick could very well work. Sterling is known as the "Drayton McLane Jr." of the NBA and doesn't like paying high dollar guaranteed contracts. KT's contract is considered a sweetheart deal, and the #15 still gets them a decent player in a rather deep draft. In KT they get a good back-up player for Brand, and his deal expires after this year. I think the Clippers would entertain the offer.
If you guys were GMs and I was also a GM I would rape you. How can you think that Odom is worth a Franchise. Come on fellas Steve is our future and I hope that he is untouchable.
Then what, pray tell, is a talent like Odom worth? Francis or Griffin is all that would come close to getting it done.
You don't have to be a Francis lover to laugh your ass off at how stupid that trade is. I mean, first of all, who is better now, Francis or Odom? Francis is an allstar, scores over 20 pts, 6 boards, 6 assists, while Odom scores 13 pts, 6 boards, and 6 assists. Injury wise, Odom only played 29 games this year and he was suspended for the 2nd time in his 3 year career for weed. The dumbest part of this trade is putting Cat at pg. Are you freakin' nuts, Mobley can't play point, he could never be succesful as a pass first player. So you see, logically speaking, this trade sucks ass.
