After reading Falcon's post and seeing the high school graduates posting that they aare finishing up, it reminded me of a statistic that I just saw from the 2000 US Census. 63% of High School graduates go to college immediately after graduation, the highest rate ever. 21% of Americans have taken some college courses but had not earned a degree. 15.5% earned a bachelor's degree but no higher. 8.9% earned graduate or professional degrees. So I thought I would take a poll. Remember this is what you have finished, not what you intend to do. Have you a) Not completed High school or GED. b) graduated High School but not attended any college. c) Attended some College but not finished. d) Finished College, no post college academics. e) Attended some graduate work, but did not complete it. f) Completed post college academics, such as Grad school, Law School, Medical school or PhD program.
I wonder how many of us have more than one bachelors degree (granted, I won't have that second one until August, but still....)
Ph.D. in the house! Of course, that doesn't mean I know everything, or even that much outside of the one thing I did my research on. (on the other hand, though, we're not always as narrowly focused as a lot of people make us out to be...)
Just graduated from law school last Saturday. Kinda' still feel like I'm in school, though, because of bar classes five days a week.
Have you guys ever noticed that these things never have a "still in college" or still in whatever option? They always word it like you did "some high school" or "some college" and it looks like it implies that you did some and are not there anymore.
Ya, there is always a grey area there that can't be counted in polls. I have finished a bachelors, was accepted into a PhD program but decided not to go, and am applying to law school now. (Got my practice LSAT scores up to 164! ) Kind of hard to fit that into a poll...
taking Barbri??? are you in Houston?? do they still do it at the Shriner's Temple?? my bar exam experience was rough...took it in pasadena (graduated early so took the Feb bar)...my wife was pregnant and due soon!..i stayed at a motel in pasadena...i got out of the test and called my wife saying, "am i a dad yet?" she responded, "no..but you better get here quick!" what are you doing AFTER the bar?
I'm in that club...second one in December or next Spring (UHCL never has any summer classes I need, so I'm skipping right now). Just curious...for all the people who are earning a second bachelors, are you planning on doing some sort of graduate work? I've been toying around with working on a Masters degree and possibly continuing after that, but not too sure.
They say 3 percent of the people use 5 to 6 percent of their brain 97 percent use 3 percent and the rest goes down the drain I'll never know which one I am but I'll bet you my last dime 99 percent think with 3 percent 100 percent of the time 64 percent of all the world's statistics are made up right there on the spot 82.4 percent of people believe 'em whether they're accurate statistics or not I don't know what you believe but I do know there's no doubt I need another double shot of something 90 proof I got too much to think about It's too much to think about Too much to figure out Stuck between hope and doubt It's too much to think about They say 92 percent of everything you learned in school was just bull**** you'll never need 84 percent of everything you got you bought to satisfy your greed Because 90 percent of the world's population links possessions to success Even though 80 percent of the wealthiest 1 percent of the population Drinks to an alarming excess More money, more stress, I guess It's too much to think about Too much to figure out Stuck between hope and doubt It's too much to think about 84 percent of all statisticians truly hate their ****ing jobs They say the average bank robber lives within say about 20 miles of the bank that he robs There's this little bank not far from here I've been watching now for a while Lately all I can think about's how bad I wanna go out in style And it's too much to think about Too much to figure out Stuck between hope and doubt It's too much to think about That's right It's too much to think about Amen It's too much to think about Mmm mmm "Statistician's Blues" -- Todd Snider
I was planning on starting a Masters Degree in the Fall, but I didn't get in to my first choice school, so my enthusiasm flagged a little. I have appealed their decision (seems to me that they couldn't make an informed decision until they looked at all of my transcripts, but they didn't ever ask for all of them, including the one from my current BA work). But we'll see.
Not really surprised by the results. I'm guessing many of the "attended some college" are probably still in college -- and on their way to graduation. Given that, this bbs is around 90% college educated or more. Bunch of eggheads. No wonder the D&D forum was needed.
