http://houston.culturemap.com/news/...eenums-idiotic-doubters-need-to-face-reality/ The article is over a week old. I didn't see it posted, so please lock if it is. It's a good read if your a Keenum fan. And for the record, I switched to 790 after the rockets left. I just don't enjoy 610 like I used to. Being a UH guy, I really want to see what the kid can do in the NFL. Being a Texan fan, I really hope he doesn't play in the regular season. Yes, the Kubes is really talking him up, but he's challenging and pushing TJ Yates according to the article. Now if Kubes thinks Keenum can push Schaub and he has Jim Harbough sized testicles to make the switch, then that's a different story.
I get why you're making these comparisons and whatnot... but I will always repeat that it didn't take a ton of balls for Harbaugh to play Kaepernick while Smith was *injured*...and then after he was proven, it didn't take a ton of balls to play the guy who was looking good and who was drafted at the top of the 2nd round and everyone knew had a ton of potential! Keenum was undrafted. Very different story. It would be a HUGE risk/story (bigger than anything the 49ers did with their QBs) if Kubiak went with Keenum over Schaub...even if it's the same scenario as the 9ers (Schaub injured, then came back but Keenum kept the job).
I'm a UH fan and Texans fan and I would love to see Keenum take the reigns of the offense (maybe after a little more development). He's precise, quick , smart, has underrated armstrength, and most importantly he has the balls that Schaub lacks.
I'm glad you agree! That's why I said it would be an entirely different story if Kubes felt like Keenum can push Schaub, because as of right now, Kubes has never said anything remotely close. All we here is that Keenum is pushing TJ. I'm just happy to here some positive publicity for the guy.
He doesn't have the size or arm strength. Did you see him in the preseason? He looked like a high schooler out there.
These UH-rose-coloured glasses, that I'm looking through... though I'd like to see Keenum surprise as well.
For the love of all things good stop using apostrophes for plurals. Possession and contraction, people.
He didn't look good in preseason last year, but he was learning a new offense and making the adjustment to playing under center. He has had a full year learning the system now, and I am looking forward to seeing if he really has improved from last year.
Lol the author says he think Case will be starting at the end of the season. Lets hope it's because of injury and not Schaubs play. Because if he's in there because Matt sucked, it must be a tough season.
As a Cougar, I'm biased, but some guys despite size and arm strength just know how to get it done at the QB position. The game starts to slow down... Case in some ways reminds me of Rich Gannon who came into the league as a QB, but was a great athlete drafted to play safety. Case obviously had the knee injury, so that changed that. Now, I'm not comparing him to Joe Montana, but some of the leadership and decision making involved is there....just sayin...Yes, he's undersized...listed bigger than he is. But sometimes guys have "it". My point is sometimes it's unquantifiable just how good a player will be. No, he's not Joe, but more than likely Case is a helluva lot better than many have given him credit for.....and if I had to bet on it, I'd say he will have a MUCH better career than Yates. And if Matt does go down....then with our great defense, I could see him being able to step in and do enough to get the job done...possibly even becoming a longtime starter.
There is no way that Schaub is not the starter if he's healthy next season. Kubiak is married to him at QB. Schaub is due for another injury considering his track record so if Yates bombs completely we could see Case. I consider it a long shot though. If I had to wager on the probability of Case ever starting a game in his NFL career I would take never.
Point noted. Also, he was playing with third/fourth string players and it showed. Granted, they were playing against other third/fourth stringers, but the sucktitude was all over the place. Not just on Case.
There's a slight difference in arm strength but a bigger difference in accuracy plus Schaub has the experience in running an NFL offense whereas Keenum ran that shotgun wide receiver quick out type stuff. I think Keenum is tougher than Schaub but he's so much smaller that I don't know that he could take a good shot in the NFL. Schaub is a puss who'll bail out sometimes but I've seen him take a shot and get up.
As a UH fan, I watched a lot of Keenum, and I don't get the lack of arm strength rap. He throws a soft, catchable pass, and he has excellent timing. Isn't the purpose of passing to have the receiver catch it rather than be knocked over by it.? I have also seen him throw it 50-60 yards. Does anyone throw it farther? With accuracy?
The issue is ...is he better that TJ Yates... if that happens...Then anything can happen...Schaub isnt a top tier QB...he can be replaced if things start falling apart...Keenum has to prove he is #2 before he gets a chance to be #1...
I think he got the lack of arm strength rap from his Combine performance. He got injured running early during the combine and he didn't throw well. He threw better at the UH Pro day and a pro scout told UH blogger Sam Khan Jr. that Keenum had "above average" arm strength.
