I respect Iverson. I have honestly felt that he is a tragic figure in sports, especially with his downfall, and he got a little kid like me into basketball with his amazing stuff.

And this article is laughable. The guy's done. I hate to admit it, but he is. It's over for him.

Interesting was just the word to describe the article. Iverson was AMAZING in his prime and it's honestly sad how his status declined. He should be remembered with names like Hakeem, Kareem, and West because of the way he changed the game.
While Iverson's game was speed-based and he lost much of the athleticism, I honestly see problems with how he was projected as "washed up" after going to detroit for 1 season. He was scoring near 20+ ppg that season while in DETROIT, which we all known is offensive hell. Last year, Detroit was 29th in Pace, and the year before that, Detroit was 30th. One offseason and he's suddenly done with only Grizzlies wanting him for the vet min an off the bench? That's kind of fishy considering he still had the abilities of a 20 ppg scorer.

Also, the practice rant was epic.

Problem with AI was that he could never make his teammates better. Which is why they had to build a team of defensive players around him the year they went to the finals. It almost worked because he was such a good individual player that year, but once he lost the step, he wasn't ever good enough to carry his teams. When he really lost his step the last couple years, his inability to make others better made him a liability. That's why he's done. Great player in the early 00s tho

Iverson is still a 20 PPG scorer, but he needs like 35 shots to get there. Guy has been washed up for 5 years now, but nobody will admit it

AI is one lazy dude who thinks that just because he plays hard on the court he doesn't have to practice anymore. I'm sorry, but I think he represents the worst the NBA has. I'm not talking about the tattoos and dreads, its that entitlement that he has, and the fact that he still doesn't know how to run an offence or shoot an open jumpshot despite 12 years in the league. Even his D is horrid.

Poisoning the well with false stats. He needed 13-14 shots in the year with Detroit/Denver for ~18ppg. In comparison, Kobe needs 21-22 shots for 27 points and Kevin Martin, who we all agree is amazingly efficient, needed 15 shots for 20 ppg last year.

LOLWUT is the correct response to this thread. If David Stern was so against Iverson, how could he have won an MVP that he CLEARLY did not deserve?

Tell me about it. The writer is delusional. What's even worse is the first reader comment.

    Well said.

When you are washed up, and your character is weak, you are let go faster than those who have stronger character.

Allen Iverson made his own bed, he gets to lie in it...

The sad thing is that he is more interested in pointing fingers and blaming others than realizing it is all on him.

    Ego is his worst enemy.
