Carl Landry Aaron Brooks Joey Dorsey Jermaine Taylor Chase Budinger These are the Morey draft picks still on this team, except for budinger, every single one of them is a college senior, spent at least 4 years in college. Budinger spent 3 years and is a junior. Aside from the whole stats angle, it is interesting that morey seems to pick players that have spent lots of time in college, in fact our best draft pick Carl Landry spent 5 years in college. It kind of blows the notion out of the water that older draft picks have reached some kind of ceiling and can't improve any further.
Considering that he values stats over just about anything else, it's not surprising at all. All it means is that he's evaluating relevant stats as the basis for his picks. That makes sense since high school stats shouldn't be taken too seriously anyway. Having said that, he would have absolutely taken a no-brainer like Lebron in a heart beat.
It could also have to do with the fact that he has always had late draft picks, and I think that most of he players taken late are usually college veterans. And let's not forget that Morey pushed hard for Rubio, a very young player that has the potential to be a star.
You forget Donte Green, who was one and done. As for college seniors, they tend to have low perceived value due to their lack of upside. So they're the ones that are still around after all the high flying one-and-done players go in the lottery. Morey doesn't go for seniors because he prefers seniors over Freshman/Sophmores.
three hits and two question marks... I think in time Joey is going to pan out... I doubt Morey would resign him if he didn't have a chance.
Exactly, I think Morey is proving this wrong, college seniors have plenty of upside, in fact brooks and landry have probably improved the most out of any players in the same draft class.
These guys are veterans so to speak. Their game IQs may be higher since they've played the game longer. Not to mention they have something to prove coming out of a later round, they'll be hungry. As for Rubio, he's been playing pros since he was what, 15...he's no rookie.
improved the most, not the best player, and yes, i would say landry and brooks have improved more than durant has.
I understand your qualification, but the fact remains that Daryl Morey drafted Donte Greene to be a Houston Rocket. While I agree with you in general, Greene is a major outlier in a theory that doesn't have much of a sample size to begin with. Batum shouldn't count, since Morey essentially drafted him for the Blazers. Just like Rudy Gay shouldn't count (for CD/Morey), since he was drafted for the Grizzlies. Neither were ever intended to be Houston Rockets.
