I've been MIA for a while but I made sure I went to the Rox-Nets game last night. Anyway, I didn't read anything about Cat being injured before the game so I was surprised to see he was in civies when I got there. At halftime, Calvin walked by me and I leaned over the rail and said "Calvin, what's wrong with Cuttino?" He had this disgusted look on his face, shook his head and replied "absolutely nothing!" He seemed appalled at the fact that he was sitting out in such an important game with such a minor ailment.
maybe he wasn't talking to you. Maybe he didn't get any brownies from any fans and exclaimed " I got ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!"
He and Bill Worrell made some kind of comment during the game to the same affect. Did anyone else catch that when Bill and Calvin were discussing Cuttino's injury towards the end of the game.
I think it was reported that Cat had a sprained finger. I guess Calvin thought that Cat should have played with it.
Kudos to Calvin! Something needed to be said about Mobley. Jeff Van Gundy- Head Coach Kenny Smith- Assistant Coach Calvin Murphy- Assistant Coach Carrol Dawson- Assistant Coach Guaranteed second round team next year.
I simply will not believe that Mobley did not play through an injury if he at all could. He would play with an amputation.
Sprained Finger...I got a finger for him... I know we all bash CAT from time to time, but damn, we really could have used him last night...It was pathetic to see Mooch and Stevie... We need Stevie and CAT...I'm gald Yao had a good game, but a freakin' sprained finger...I almost sh*t when I heard it...Give me a break...
You can bash Cat all you want, but you can't question his desire to play. Smith sat him out, I'm sure...
Exactly. Its easy to start blaming someone for not playing through an injury. But how can someon else know the extent of that injury? A-train is probably right (unless you are being sarcastic?), Dumbo Smith probably set him out.
I'm tougher on Cuttino than just about any rational poster on this BBS. Some of his on court decisions drive my up a wall. But I will never, ever question Cats desire to play. Cat's heart has always been in the right place even when his head has been elsewhere.
During the broadcast they showed Cat's taped finger and Calvin said something like 'in a situation like this you just shoot with your other hand.' He obviously disagreed with the decision to sit him, whoever made it. Moochie was incredibly bad as he has been all season. Turns out his contract is the worst one we're carrying now, at least among active players (are we still paying Maloney?). Taylor, Cato and lately even Rice are earning their money. Moochie's not. Maddox must be in a serious doghouse to not get minutes last night. I really wonder what's up with that.
What I don't understand is why didn't they play Hawkins at the 2 guard spot? And then have Hawkins guard Kidd on defense freeing up Francis to not have to chase Kidd around? What does Moochie bring to the table? Nothing on defense and nothing on offense. Why play him? At least Hawkins will bring you hustle and good man on man defense on the defensive end of the court and on offense someone that is unselfish and will cut to the basket and not dribble too much or jack up shots. Moochie has been such a HUGE disappointment his year!
How about starting JPossey and GRice at the SG and SF position respectively. Then have Hawk and Terrnce Morris back them up respectively as well.
Mobley played all of last year with two messed up ankles. If anyone is willing to play through an injury it is the Cat. Either his finger is so messed up that he felt he would do more harm than good out there, or he was held out so the finger can heal for the last few games and the playoffs. Never question Cat's heart, whatever else you might think about him.
There is no way Cat sat that game out if the decision was his. No way. The guy hates sitting on the bench for 2 minutes, let alone miss a huge game against the Nets.
Yeah, come on. The guy sits out, like, 3 minutes per game. Say whatever you want about his skills, but the guy isn't and has never been the lazy type.
Mobley had impromtu oral surgery with no anesthetic at half time once to yank a broken tooth-cap out and got up off the table with exposed root sucking pain everytime he sucked air, and he scored 23 points in the second half. Dude would have to be held out to not play right now. Sounds more like Calvin didn't agree with Smith to me.
