I think Mobley has been playing great D so far. Mobely took over the last two games and has played DEFENSE like he should. Once the Rox get their offense together, we can be really-really good.

Wait til "you know who" shows up to read between the lines and tell us that Cat should be coming off the bench or be traded and that JVG doesn't "get it" yet and he will only "get it" when he benches Mobley.

I think it would be great if Cuttino kept improving his D. And also him making such a high 3pt. % is exactly what this team needs.

I havent been able to see much of the games so far but im guessing maybe some of those shots he has been taking have been open shots passed from Yao Ming; while he has been doubled. Im hoping Mobley sees that and will pass to Yao Ming more and more often. And vice versa, (Mobley getting the ball back for a wide open shot) ;)

We're trying to transform Mobley into a player that he's not.

We want Mobley to be a role player, concentrate on defense, catch and shoot, cut to the basket more often, and ONLY score within the offense that Steve and Yao create.

He may become very close to the player we want him to be. Why don't we save ourself the trouble and just acquire the type of player that we want. Mobley's offense is a bonus, and JVG made it clear. Why don't we trade for a good defensive 2-guard, who's more than happy to be a role player, hits the 3 consistently for his career, works within the offense, AND brings intangibles to the court. Shane Battier comes to mind, but that's just an example.

Look at JVG's Knicks teams. This is one problem I noticed about JVG: rather than acquire players in NY, he insisted on transforming everyone into something they're not. Sprewell was not a PG or a SF, Glen Rice was not a 4, and Marcus Camby was not a post player.

Ofcourse, it will work with some players (Cato). But how long will Mobley do all these things that JVG wants him to do, until he says to himself: "this isn't me, I'm way better than this, HERE's what I can do."

That's when the poor decisions, horrible shooting nights, and ISO ball games kick in.

I acknowledge that he did a WONDEERFUL job last game, PERFECT even. However, absolutely no one can convince that he won't get bored doing it and end up going back to his old ways.

Mobley has been nothing but the consumate team player since we drafted him 5 years ago. We were hurting at point guard so we had him man that position, 6th man he did that, give us more scoring in the starting lineup...Ok, shoot off screens .....no problem. shut down Kobe ...did that too.

The problem is that there are no players like that available for the money we pay Mobes. Name a wing man that plays better D and can shoot more consistently from Mobes. There are aren't any because Artest and Bruce Bowen aren't available.

Even though he is my favorite rocket, I know he has shortcomings (passing, decision making). However, he is the best we can get. No one trades players that play great D and can shoot consistently and that is why Mobes ain't going anywhere.

did you hear that? Mobley would rather shut his guy down then score 20 points. Who would ever thought they would hear that coming from Mobley. This is from the same guys who last year said he sometimes saves his energy on defense thanks to J. Posey. What a 360!

man, you can't trade Mobes right now. if you do you will be trading a player who is doing everything the coach has asked him to do. that wouldn't look good.

I agree 100%. The Cat has been everything the team has asked him to be and more.

To say we're trying to transform him into a player he's not is just silly. Every year in the league he has had different roles on the team. What would be so different now?

Thats not what I was going to say!! I would use Mobley as the 6th man though. When I say that JVG will get 'it' I am refering to Steve Francis and his lack of Point Guard and passing abilities, also the Teams need to have a Playmaker.
In time, when Yao Ming gains enough confidence and learns positioning, one expects that he might start to demand the ball and then a traditional playmaker will be a must. I see Steve as our two Guard more than him being a Playmaker. Nothing new just the same old tune!

I agree with JVG. Cat can be one of the top 5 defenders in the league with his quickness. I just hope he is really trying to improve and not just saying it.

It is no surprise to me that JVG sees his value and uses it and by use it I do not mean in a trade. There is absolutely no justification for trading him. Let Dallas do all the trading so that they can bring in a player to give them 9 TO's.

i think Cuttino will keep increasing his level of intensity on D. His role has been asked to be altered to fit around Yao and Steve's game... but that doesn't mean his role is decreasing... just altered... and it shows in his games this year.

JVG is the man, Cat will be in the group of guys on our team that will benefit from JVG. Cato, Taylor being the other two I see a lot of improvement this year in.

obviously Yao and Steve aren't that bad either.

Walker IMHO is one of the most overrated players in this league.

Definitely. If I have a need for a SF, I would get Walker and take the bad with the good. But I just cannot see how I could have Jamison and Dirk and Welch on my team, playing in the west, and get ride of a shot-blocking, full- range shooting 7fter for Walker.

What a positive guy! :D I pity his kids.

Anyway, I've always said that Mobley is not a selfish player. He just needs to play smarter, increase his basketball IQ.

BTW, he can't be the lock down defender if JVG keeps playing him 40 minutes a game. You've got to keep a guy fresh to keep up the defesive intensity. Hopefully when Pike comes back, Mobley's minutes will go down to the lower-to-mid-30s.
