Well, this sucks. If you recently jumped on the Sandy Bridge bandwagon, contact the place of purchase for RMA info.

I'm sure this isn't the only case where, over time, a cougar's performance degraded and possibly failed altogether.

Big ouchie for Intel. $300m hit to revenues. I'd hate to be the engineer responsible for that flaw.

We were chuckling at work this morning because I almost bought my mobo last night but decided to wait. I've been waiting for the boards to stabilize but lots of people were having issues with different manufacturers of P/H67 boards. So far all I have is the CPU and Amazon shipped the case this morning. Guess I'll wait some more... :)

I'm sure the responsibility didn't fall to just one engineer.

Yeah I know. I've been at the center of a similar expensive snafu (although on a relatively much smaller scale), and it wasn't fun. The end result was a massive reassessment of engineering QA practices and the erection of all sorts of red tape and procedural/documentation requirements that made our development process a lot slower, although no one denies the benefits these days.

Typically the responsibility won't fall to one engineer, but quite often things like this can come down to a simple miscalculation by one person, a typo or other similar error. But then the blame should (correctly) be on the system that permitted that error to wind up in production affecting potentially $1+ billion in revenue, rather than scapegoating a few people which benefits no one.

Well, I just bought a whole rig based on sandy bridge. The good news is that, as far as I can tell, only my 50.00 dvd drive is connected to 3.0 sata port. My hdd are connected to the 6.0 marvell. I'm wondering if I should reutrn my motherboard or not. I did spend 300 + dollars on it.

The "corrected" motherboards aren't expected to be out until around April. So if you send it back and don't have another PC, you'll have to sit and wait.

Yeah I didn't plan on sending it back until I had a replacement! ;)

BTW dunk, let me ask you a question does the hd over a computer monitor look fuzzy compared to a tv with cable hd. Is the quailty based on the feed or is their a limitation in the graphic cards/monitor/ drivers not being as good as a cable.

I am trying to figure out if I have the best feed possible or if their is something else I need. I mean the quality of my computer is pretty good but not always great.

Assuming your monitor/video card combination is good, it should be able to display HD fine. Change your monitor resolution to 1280x720 or something like 1920x1080 and see if it helps.

It affected it in that most retailers don't have stock anymore/stopped selling them. People are finding it difficult to buy the ones they want. Buy.com and Amazon.com had some in stock a few days ago. Newegg stopped selling them altogether, I believe.

I am using the px2370 which is one of the best rated, also I have the radeon 6870. I think that my main issue is with the led monitors, even with clear type font, websites leave a lot to be desired. Clutch fans is one of the better ones. Also the contrasts doesn't pop as much as I would like it to, but again I may have unreal expectations here. I have noticed that the further away I am from the monitor the better it looks. Again, my monitor and graphics cards are probably just fine.

Another thing I've noticed is that espn for example video playback is often set to 480p I think and that makes a difference.

Standard def doesn't look good on HDTV's, either. You're trying to take a small amount of pixels/resolution (480) and stretch them across a larger area (1080 or 720).
