i'm a medical professional (physician) who slipped on some ice (not work related injury) on christmas day and smashed up my ankle/lower leg. i had 4 fractures and now i'm laid up for a while. my ortho says no walking/driving for at least 6 weeks (and after that still limited)

anyways i applied for my company's short term disabilty (STD) policy..

today however i heard that they might terminate my department (budget cuts).

my question is if i lose my job, do i continue to collect my STD since i cannot even get a new job in my condition?

i did some google research which said I could get fired while on disability (as long as not fired because of disability) but that STD continues until I am cleared to return to work by my orthopedists...

    any opinions/comments confirming or otherwise?

thanks in advance (i cannot sit upright for long and may not check responses till later so I will thank you in advance...
