Does anyone have any idea about pilot lessons? I'm thinking about getting my dad a couple hours of pilot lessons with an instructor. I know he'll never follow through and actually go to pilot school, but I think he would get a kick out of flying a plane for a couple hours.

Is it possible to do this without signing up for a long course? What are the prereqs to getting actual air time? Is there anyway to figure out which places are legit and which are garbage? I know NOTHING about this, but thought it might be fun for him. Can anyone edumacate me on this?

    Thanks

Many flight schools offer an introductory flight. It usually lasts an hour and there's no committment to take additional lessons.

Once the instructor performs the takeoff he'll hand the controls to your father. He can try simple turns and just fly around at a leisurely rate.

Not sure how much it costs nowadays ($100???), but the introductory flight is less than what a normal lesson would cost per hour.

If there's an airport near you, go and see if there is a flight school there. Otherwise, a good starting point is beapilot.com.

    Hope that answers your questions.

Well this is good to know. Now I will be afraid every time i'm driving and see a small plane. It could be a person who maybe wants to learn how to fly, flying it.
