I'm gonna be a sophomore in the fall and I was wondering about starting the road to some sort of financial degree. I was just curious as to what types of jobs out there that I can have with a degree in something like Finance and such. I'm not one of those people looking for high salary and low hours (though it would be nice but just not possible). I'm looking at my options out there. And if any of you guys have insight on careers such as accounting, investment banking, stuff like that, I'd appreciate it.
The number 1 degree out of college right now is an accounting degree. Do it. You can have a job anywhere for any business with an accounting degree. Almost every financial job out there wants an accountant. Do a five year program to get your Masters of accounting, take the CPA exam and get a job.
You can do a lot with a finance degree. I-banking, hedge funds, private client services (wealth mgmt), corporate finance, strategy consulting, other types of consulting, etc. Depending on where you go to school you may be shut out of some of the big name companies, though.
4 Years of Economics and "Foundations of Business (ha!)" = Credit Analyst. Ive had no prior work experience, so its an entry level job. I'm 23 and it pays $30K a year. Gotta start somewhere eh?
I'll be graduating in May 2006, with an economics degree. A minor in leadership and organization, and possibly minors in corporate strategy and financial economics. Feel free to hire me. Thanks Hopefully at above that 30k figure, or else I could just be a teacher
Oh, and one of my friends decided we should start a hedge fund. Yeah, I know that's not possible.. but I'd be interested to know salaries in that field
Hedge fund... that's funny. Everyone has started hedge funds since 2000. Hell, I think my mom may have one on the side right now.
Well, if you start one, you can assume to take 1-3% of the money you raise in management fees, then keep around 20% of the profits on your trades. The hard part is raising the money, obviously. It's hard to say what "salaries" are in the industry. It's not like 30-40 hedge funds show up to hire undergrads each year at school. It's a very fragmented industry with no real norms. Many are predicting the hedge fund industry will come under very strict scrutiny and regulation in the near future. It's getting out of hand and many think that the hedge fund bubble is going to be burst soon. Anybody with a computer and money can start their own hedge fund.
It is how rich people creatively speculate in securities and such. It is kinda like a mutual fund without any rules or governmental oversight.
we are looking for someone. Just posted the job on Monster. http://jobsearch.monster.com/getjob...monster.com/holding&aj=HCC+Insurance+Holdings
bigtexx. yeah, that's why I said not really possible. for people just graduating to start unless they have funding of some sort... and some knowledge the idea was thrown out when I was talking to some econ majors and we were saying.. if we want to get rich we need to start our own company. just have no idea what kind to start
