Chad's final Mock Draft is up, and he outlines a nightmare scenario in which all the players we want are taken ahead of us, Atlanta is too jittery to execute a trade, and we are stuck with an overrated combo guard:

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draf...ory?columnist=ford_chad&page=MockDraft-060628

The skinny: The Rockets are trying to move up and get their hands on Brandon Roy. Their best options for trade partners appear to be the Atlanta Hawks (drafting No. 5), the Minnesota Timberwolves (No. 6) and the Boston Celtics (No. 7).

If their efforts fail, the Rockets are hoping one of the top players in the draft falls to them.

Ending up with Foye would be their worst-case scenario. While Foye is a better version of Luther Head and could immediately step in and take over as two-guard, he wouldn't fit a need as well as Roy or Tyrus Thomas would.

If the Rockets can't get someone they need more than Foye, they could end up trading the pick.

I'd be dissappointed if we came away with Foye but I dont think thats who the Rockets are targeting. They've talked all offseason about acquiring length and athleticism at the 2 guard spot.

Foye is just a younger version of Mike James. Pass. Lets just grab James with the MLE and call our combo-guard spot filled.

Have we even heard a peep out of the Rockets about Foye? I'm pretty sure they worked him out, but I haven't heard anything about him from the Rockets. I would be a bit disappointed -- but a lot of people are putting him in the top five in terms of talent. I'd just pray he could do half of what Wade does.

Exactly, if the Rockets wanted this type of player all they would have to do is sign Mike James.

Why don't we just draft Brewer. I have no idea why Ford doesn't show Brewer on our radar when his mock has him going right after us, and it fulfills a need better than Foye.

When you make out a mock draft every pick is dependent on the picks above it. The more uncertain the picks at the top, the even more uncertain the picks below. In this draft there is a 1 in 4 maybe 1 in 6 uncertainty at the #1 pick making projecting the draft is pure folly. So if you don't like this mock, don't worry about it too much, it's probably wrong.

There was a lot of statistical study about this during the last NFL draft and the general result was 90% of all first round draft projections are wrong. The greater success of course was at the top 4 picks but once there are derivations from the conventional thinking every pick below tends to deviate.
The Texans taking Mario probably screwed everyones mocks this year.

And even if we did take Foye, other than being a couple of inches shorter than we'd like he could be a great offensive weapon in a line up with Tracy and Yao. At the 2 or the 1 if Tracy is running the offense.

what dont you like about foye? the guy averaged 20.5 ppg 3 assists and 5.8 rebounds. not to mention he let villanova to an incredible season. the guy would become an instant starter, something that cant be said about thomas, and probably rings true for roy as well. the guy is the complete package, not overrated as you might think. all he has done is produce and the more i see him and the more i hear about him, i will be so happy if we draft him.

And as we all know, "dominance" in college hoops guarantees surefire success in the pros. Shooting 41% is not considered dominant anyways. Randy Foye should not be on the draft board for the Rockets, what needs does he fill exactly? I'll be happy if we come out of the draft with Brewer at #8 (I don't see him slipping past Golden State, Seattle AND Orlando) and an athletic wing/Novak at 32.

Baqui99, most of these people have not seen this guy play, thats why they make their comments. I have seen him play and I think he is probably the best player in the draft and comparing him to Mike James is a complete joke. I would take him in a heartbeat over Brewer, Carney and Redick.

Jay Bilas said last night on ESPN that he was the gem in this draft. Someone else described him as a Chauncey Billups with athletism.

Foye’s got a bit more explosiveness to his game than Mike James does. He’s exactly the type of guard that the new NBA rules favor most. Quick, aggressive guards that can break down the defense, get into the paint, draw fouls, and knock down 15-18 foot jumpers with regularity (Jason Terry, Ben Gordon, Wade, Billups, Arenas). I wouldn't mind at all if the Rockets stayed at #8 and drafted Foye, although I don't think Minnesota or Boston will let him get past them.

I agree with you. if they cannot land Roy, then they should draft for size and athleticism and that would mean Brewer. For once, they would actually be able to create a mismatch at the guard position with a 6-7 guard.

I am taking a wait and see approach to this draft because I have zero confidence in Dawson & Lindsay and a large part of me believes that they will somehow, some way manage to screw this up. From this draft, they should be able to add 2 players who can play now but considering who we are talking about, that may end up being another false hope.
