Did anyone watch Inside last night? they had a segment called "NBA Fundamentals". Sam was host of that segment. He was showing the fine art of the 'mid range game'. he was demonstrating on Daniel Ewing all his moves in the mid range game. Many times he would say "Hey Charles, remember this?" swish!! My favorite was when he was doing a baseline turnaround (hmm Hakeemish!) and he swishes it and says "Kenny, remember that? You saw that all day in practice" Kenny and Charles were speechless and laughing at the end of the segment.
He also said that the Rockets were not in the same level as dallas, pheonix, SA, and Utah. He said that we were not very good and basically we weren't going anywhere this year. He has a serious grudge against us for some reason.
Umm, I hate to say it, but he's saying it because it's (for the most part) true. Dallas and Phoenix have both handed us our butts, San Antiono is a super powerhouse playing like they haven't in a long while (playoffs last year), and Utah has a better record. Can the Rox beat every one of them? Yes. Are we playing ball as well as they have this season? No, not by a long shot. We've been horribly beaten down with injuries. Sam I Am is right as rain. And I still want him back.
Let me clarify this so the Clutchfans don't get misinformation. "HE ALSO SAID"=CHARLES Not Sam Kenny though mentioned the Rockets after they talked about the Suns,Spurs,Mavs,Utah He said the Rockets were good So take that Kenny haters!
Yea man Kenny supports the rox well. Even tho I still find his commentary/analysis annoying sometimes, hes a good guy. As for charles, he is damn funny, and I'm sure he'll give houston props when we deserve it (which will be soon)
sam isn't the one who said that. barkley is the one who said that. barkley mentioned that dallas, pho, sa, utah should just play each other in the playoffs because none of the bottom teams in the west matter, he did not mention houston. kenny smith brought up the rockets and said what about houston, and that's when barkley went on to say his usual bit about inconsistency and tracy mcrady needing to be more 'duminent'. he said yao was doing well early but their record wasn't good because yao isn't 'duminent' and tmac can. i'm tired of hearing about this kind of analysis, and i'm also tired of trying to defend ourselves or saying it's a good thing that they don't talk about houston so we can be under the radar. people in the league know about houston, and they sure as hell don't think of houston as a 'darkhorse'. that's just for idiot fans who don't watch the games. just start the damn playoffs already, it's getting brutal waiting for game 1 in salt lake.
also, i think sam i am was real funny, he said that he would become 'king of LA' once again or something? i don't know what that really means but i thought his subtle awkwardness during the clip was hilarious. i think the guys were speechless after the segment cuz it was shocking that he would call himself 'king of LA'
For the NO LOGIC CLUTCHFAN, kenny should have the Rockets as the #1 team in the league. Even us YOFers and us Spartan-like Rocket fans know we aren't there yet. Especially when we can't beat Phoenix and Dallas in the regular season. I worry about Phoenix and their style of play. When the Raptors came to Toyota Center, they played the same type of ball, and TJ Ford and all those EURO players whipped us. JVG needs to figure out a Defense or lineup that stops these run and gun teams.
Our record with Tracy and Yao early in the season was good. Why is it that Earnie and Kenny never correct Charles when he makes factually incorrect statements?
The King of LA is what Sam mentioned a year ago on Kenny's show on Sirius. Sam mentioned when he was traded to LA, he wanted to be the best player/team in LA. he wanted the Clippers to be the KINGS OF LA (instead of the Lakers). Sam said if he takes the Clips to the playoffs (which he did) he would be no doubt the "KING OF LA"
haha, thanks for the info. i've always liked how inside the nba had all these inside jokes all the time, but i guess i never heard that one. sam is a funny fella
oh, my favorite was how he just blasted out his stats. "Charles, I'm 37 years old, 6foot 3 PG, and I'm one of the best postup PGs in the game!" I also thought it was wierd that he admired Jeff Hornacek and Terrell Brandon. I guess TB was a great underrated PG. He said he liked Hornacek's jumper. Also, I loved all those Sam highlights. its the same freaking moves and no one can stop it! "Nobody can block my shot if they are going backwards"-Sam
i respect what sam can do at his age. that medium range jumper is really sweet. he sure as hell doesn't have picture perfect form but the man really knows how to create space. like you said, it really is the exact same crap. step back, jab step, turn fade... next time i'm in the lower right block, i'm gonna give one big dribble step inside, then a turn away jumper for sam i am.
I saw the segment where Barkley ranked the Rockets below the top 4 teams in the West, but in his defense, we haven't proven a damn thing yet. Granted, neither has Utah, but they're 4 up in the loss column right how so that earns them the benefit of the doubt.
Before the Rox/Clippers pregame on Wednesday, Sam was practicing all kinds of mid-range jumpers ... Coming off curls, etc... You know what John Lucas was practicing on the other side of the court? 27 footers and End of Quarter situations like Running three pointers and half court shots. And you wonder why our backcourt is such in shambles. Sigh.
Utah Jazz 2003-04 42-40 .512 Did not make playoffs 2004-05 26-56 .317 Did not make playoffs 2005-06 41-41 .500 Did not make playoffs ...benefit of the doubt?
meh, thats why barkley gets paid. he's a funny guy, runs his mouth all the time and is pretty idiotic. it's a contrast to marv albert and kenny who are nowhere near as goofy, though that bit with marv albert being carried into their set in las vegas like a pharaoh was pretty funny. anyway, we should all know not to take barkley's word as canon, because it definitely isnt.
The Rockets have been playing like garbage since the media started jumping on their bandwagon. We need more of that to get back our confidence and nastiness. Charles has annoyed me off and on but I just love the guy. I can't hate him knowing that he was a Rocket Alum. May not of been the best years but he definitely did his part during his tenure for this organization. I think Charles knows full well what he's saying. He's really a closet Rock fan but he likes to stay on their butt so they don't get complacent.
