Indy has four forwards, three of whom are frequently topics of trade speculation (since preseason ended Artest has assured his place). While Croshere's contract is silly, his game is decent. Harrington's and Bender's contracts are very manageable (I have even believed a Harrington/Cat deal makes great sense for both teams. It may still?). I watched a number of Pacers games this season and I like all three of Indy's guys. I don't love any of them. With Croshere what you see is what you get. He appears to have peaked. With Harrington and Bender the promise is always there, but the delivery on said promise deflates not excites. I wouldn't feel bad if any of the three were Rox, but Bender (as a 3) would be the only one I'd pursue -- tho I am sure I'd offer less than Larry Legend would accept. Why are AH and JB so respected by the national media?
I can see why Indiana is so high on Bender. The guy has a ton of upside. It’s rare to see a 7’0 small forward that can run the court like a guard, has freakish athleticism, and can shoot like him. His game is not as polished as I would like with such few minutes, but you can see the potential is there. With more minutes, I think he could blossom into a Rashard Lewis type of player.
I saw Bender play in person once and the kid is incredible. He will continue to add range to his jump shot and add speed to his first step. He will be the player that I always thought Darius Miles could be.
Remember the debate from months ago about whether Artest was worth getting? Anyone sorry he's a Pacer -- and not a Rock? Sure, we all are. Some of us knew then he was the best of their lot.
