The fact that Alexander has long admired Brown, his stated commitment only to hiring a high-caliber proven winner, and the absolutely incredible coincidence that the Sixers just ended their season a week ago, plus consensus that Brown is one of bball's true geniuses, lead me to believe Larry Brown will be the new Rockets head coach, which I'd personally love to see. I would think Brown would finally want to coach a team that had such a depth of talent, something he either hasn't had the opportunity to do like Phil Jackson has, or something he ignored in favor of tougher challenges, like Jerry West going to Memphis. Although, I think the Rockets have enough challenges to keep Brown happy. All the best to Rudy T - IMO he's also one of the best talent scouts in all of sports, and I was really glad to see he's keeping that role.
Larry Brown sounds good, though reading threads of people b****ing about how Steve is one of Larry's "favorites" and that he "lets him get away with too much" is gonna get on my nerves.
Larry brown is such a great coach without a ring. It would be perfect if he can win a ring with rockets. I hope it can be done in 3 years but it seems he wont be our long time coach because of his age. Do we have any potential head coach so that he can learn from larry as an assistant and take over the job when larry retire with a ring ........ keep dreaming
One reason we won't get Brown? When is Brown's contract up? The Rockets just bought out part of Rudy's 12 million, which means there can't be too much money in the kitty. If we pursued Brown, and had to buy his contract out as well, that is a lot of money. Then factor in that we would have pay Brown at least 5 mill a year or so... For that reason (if Brown is still locked into a contract after the year), I think JVG is who we hire.
IMO, Larry Brown will be the best fit in the rocs. he was rudy's assistant coach back in the olympics and he knew how rudy makes he's plays, from that, LB will know how to pick-up the rocs and find ways to improve it! and he is good at utilizing the big man, just look at dikembe back when he was a 6er, i thnk that was one of dikembe's best season when he was under LB. yao ming will really benefit and would learn alot from LB. Iverson became unstoppable with the help of LB. and Iverson and Francis have somewhat identical plays so with LB helping Francis, we might see Iverson pt. II. and look how he made the PF rotation back in philly one of the best. he makes sure that his PF's know what their roles are and i think EG and MoT can benefit and learn alot from LB. i think with LB, the rocs will have greater improvements!
i like our chances of landing LB. he said he likes SF and YAO.. that would be some great signs.. matter fact, almost all of the coaches love the rocs this season.. hmm.. is this a sign of a new day for the rocs???
OK - Let's have a collective joining of the minds... We should all pray, or meditate, or whatever you like to call it... All together now: God, please allow Larry Brown to see the light...Larry, Larry, Larry, Larry.... If we chant enough, maybe the collective unconscious will be moved to influence LB to choose Houston!!!! Yo baby, let the spirit move ya, hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!! I say, YEAH!!
Don't forget that Larry Brown might just be interested in position because of the unique prospects of Yao and SF. He was one of the few coaches in the league who stood up for Yao at the beginning of the season when Yao was struggling badly. All those Yao-bashing ESPN highlights at the beginning ended very quickly when Brown came out publicly and told/criticized ESPN Sportscenter they need to start "getting it" because he thought Yao was the real deal after seeing him at the Olympics. Plus, if Larry can beat up one of the most selfish players in the league to become a real team player - Allen Iversen - imagine the wonders he can do for a less difficult player like the Franchise!
Larry Brown may be a great coach, and may even be the perfect coach to coach the knuckleheads we have on our team, but the guy rarely hangs around too long at any one spot. The last thing I want is for the new coach to just up and leave for no other reason than the wind changed directions.
If he can turn things around in 4 to 5 years and decides to leave I'm ok with that. He can teach these players a lot of things that can be carried on throughout their careers.
I'm ambivalent about Brown but here are some facts: 1) Brown has been with the 76'ers for 6 years...his longest stint. Perhaps his "wanderlust" has subsided with age. 2) Brown is also the Sixers GM. 3) According to this link about Brown and the NC vacancy eventually filled by Roy Williams, Brown's remaining contract is exactly the same as RT's in amount and length - $12m over 2 seasons: http://www.timesleader.com/mld/timesleader/sports/5535924.htm But if he were to get "fired", that would be a different story. 4) Brown has surrounded himself with decent coaches: Randy Ayers - 127-108 @ Ohio State and National COY in '91, former NC assistant coaches Dave Hanners and John Kuester (who was also a Celtics assistant for 7 years) and former NBA player and Rocket Mike Woodson. Click on their name to see their individual credits: http://www.nba.com/sixers/roster/ If I were worried about Brown's lack of long-term commitment, I'd make sure his Rockets staff was at least as good as his current Sixers staff and promote from within. I was somewhat impressed that Brown's assistants all came from big time college programs - NC, Indiana, Duke, Ohio State.
I think the 4-5 year window with Brown is perfect. That's enough time with a coach. Brown can get them to mature, learn the team game. Then they can have a players coach when they're grown men. Brown now, Silas later.
