If a donkey is a better companion than your wife, what happens if you're sexually stressed? :D

"Loyal" donkeys better than wives, says textbook Tue Apr 4, 8:51 AM ET

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - A textbook used at schools in the Indian state of Rajasthan compares housewives to donkeys, and suggests the animals make better companions as they complain less and are more loyal to their "masters," The Times of India reported Tuesday.

"A donkey is like a housewife ... In fact, the donkey is a shade better, for while the housewife may sometimes complain and walk off to her parents' home, you'll never catch the donkey being disloyal to his master," the newspaper reported, quoting a Hindi-language primer meant for 14-year-olds.

The book was approved by the state's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party government but has sparked protests from the party's women's wing.

State education officials in Rajasthan, a western state known for its conservative attitude toward women, said people should not be upset by the comparison, the paper said.

"The comparison was made in good humor," state education official A.R. Khan was quoted as saying. "However, protests have been taken note of and the board is in the process of removing it (the reference)."

say whatever you want about the indian education system, but 10th graders over there can do math, physics, and chemistry better than most undergrads in the US.

they know their multiplication tables to 16... we cant even get 8 right.

You're 100% correct on that. Most American undergrads can't hold a candle next to their South Asian counterparts in math and science.

The only criticism of the Indian education system is the fact that everything is based on rote memorization. These kids are great at math and science, etc, but they are terrible at such things as English writing skills. The Indian education system is justly criticized at impeding the creativity process in the youths of the nation.

Alot of these outsourced workers I've dealt with are great at handling tasks which are pretty straightforward in terms of dealing with a fixed paradigm. But hand them something to deal with solving an open-ended problem or something where the final answer can be a variety of answers, they are often left asking for more details on every step.

well, you say that its just math and science, but the truth is that even tho they memorize their stuff, they have a better grasp on general knowledge. Most peolpe in this country wouldnt know where new zealand is or what the capital of nigeria is. But often the kids in those countries have this sort of stuff down.

Yea, basic general knowledge amongst youths in America is frighteningly void over here. I once met a girl a few years ago here, who didnt know what happened in Oklahoma City. And she was 22.

I think this video has been posted before, but it is still hilarious.

Why does everyone get married if it's so awful? Is it really that bad? I'm pretty on the fence on the whole marriage thing, but now that some of my friends are getting married I think about it more now. Now way I'd do it until I'm financially stable.

I think it's the getting married young thing that causes the bad rep. People cant possibly know what they want until they've been on their own for a while and have some kind of stable identity. Seems kind of 'monkey see, monkey do' to me.

I think the best way to to educate youth is let them get educated in S. Asia till around middle school, then bring them to the U.S. That way the basic fundamentals in math and science, as well as ideas of ultra competitiveness and discipline are mentally beaten into their brains. The you give them the next 12 years before college to experience an education system focusing on creativity and team work.

Nonetheless, despite many Indians are well educated in the traditional sciences, however the nation still has a long ways of knowing how to respect women. Look at the grads from IIT... almost all of them are men.
